Unit 14 provides some insight in preparing materials for the course. I take away from this unit some ideas on materials I can incorporate into the lessons. I liked the sources listed for authentic materials. These can contribute to a more real world English learning experience. Also, I thought course books were always the best option but in this unit I was able to see some of the downsides that could be associated with a coursebook. Course books work well in the classroom but when they don't quite fit in, the teacher should make some changes to better suit the learners.This unit discussed the various types of learners that a teacher will encounter. It paid special attention to young learners, business/ESP learners, and individual lessons. It also briefly touched on the advantages and disadvantages of classes that are multilingual versus those that are monolingual. For children learners, it reemphasized many of the basic disciplinary behaviours a teacher should use, and discussed how best to manage the classroom. All types of learners heavily emphasis the importance of not using the students' L1 even if one is familiar with it oneself.
