Unit six covers the various forms of the past tense. Past simple, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous are all outlined and explained in similar, if not the same, manner. There is a section for each form and each one shows the proper structure for conjugation gives instances of proper usage. Common mistakes and errors are listed and ideas for teaching each tense are also presented.
One thing that I learned in this unit is that problems with past simple tense often lead to problems with present perfect tense.When teaching a new language, it is important to create a balance between receptive skills and productive skills. According to this unit, since they are both equally important, they need to be incorporated in all lessons. I personally can't imagine a lesson being conducted without an equal emphasis on these skills, since in every lesson, students need to listen to the teacher speak, they need to read instructions and assignments, write answers for exercises and last but not least, speak to answer and communicate with the teacher.
