Teach English in Hungerford - TESOL Courses
Personally I have gained a true grammar review. The various grammar units truly gave me the opportunity to refresh my grammar and look into many aspects of language/sentence structure that I gave for granted. The various grammar units underlined, and thus made me realize the many subtitles that exist and how they are ‘natural' for a native speaker, but many be a true difficulty for someone just learning the language. I will definitely be patient, and detailed as possible when teaching grammar as I understand that it is difficult due to the many exceptions that exist. I will definitely plan my lessons trying to have as many examples as possible to really help the students not only learn the structure but also ‘see it in action' as much as possible. I have realized how repetition and drilling are important as hearing the subject spoken helps understand what is correct and what is incorrect..
The non grammar sections have taught me how there is a true structure to lessons for the subject of learning a new language. The many lesson plans I had to create really made me realize the importance of the ESA structure, and how effective it may be when teaching a topic. The use of the structure has also taught me the importance of focusing a lesson, and making sure that there has to be one point to the lesson and not many as the students can only absorb so much. In the future I will definitely make sure that my lessons are always focused and that the student is clear on what he is learning and how it relates to reality.
Further more, the various non grammar sections have truly taught me the importance of the ‘psychological' aspect of teaching, and teaching a foreign language; like the importance of rapport, classroom management, cultural differences. I will definitely make sure that in my first lesson I get to know as much as possible about my students (if possible find out about them before –if they are adult business learners), make sure to establish a good rapport, understand their needs and expectations.
Also, I will definitely put in action the various strategies given to maintain classroom order. I will definitely be alert and sensitive to the possible cultural differences that may exist an plan my lessons accordingly. I will also be alert to the many facets of the language that I give for granted, but actually are a difficulty.
