In this unit, we learned abut the many different approaches to teaching EFL. Each of them has their own appropriate situation in which they can be most useful, but not all situations. In addition, depending on the age group or language level of the individuals you are teaching, some approaches may work more efficiently than others. The main approach used is the ESA technique, developed by Jeremy Harmer. I agree that this is the most efficient way of teaching and correcting because it allows the student to freely explore the language, while giving the teacher an opportunity to observe learning and development needs. It also allows for repeat attempts at exploring the language and one's own mistakes, while receiving help from peers, and acting out relatable situations that don't intimidate the learner. I appreciate that it also outlines the right times to correct and how to correct, so that the student feels safe exploring even if a mistake is made. Focusing on the end goal and not just the immediate is my take-away. I also love the exercise suggestions!
