This unit sheds light on some key points about teaching and learning. First the role of the teacher: many times people can imagine a teacher-centred lesson, on the basis of the most known roles. On the contrary, thanks to this unit, I learnt all the features in the different roles that a teacher can take on. I think it is important to bear in mind that students can understand something listening to the teacher, but they will learn just doing it. So student-centred lesson are also really important, together with the other roles of the teacher like: prompter, tutor and observer.
Later the characteristics of the learners have been described, considering the two categories: young and adult students. Their attitude toward the lesson, which is different for each age, depends on motivation and life experiences. I learnt that each age has different difficulties, both for the students and for the teacher. Teacher always has a lot of responsabilities.
Finally in the unite it has been explained how to classify different levels of ability in the English language. I found it really clear and useful for judging the students and understand their level.
