WOW....WOW....I have learned English at school. I am speaking English on a daily basis, but I have never known that there is a Phonemic Alphabet. How helpful to know that words like bare and bear sounds the same, but mean something totally different can be written in the Phonemic Alphabet to better explain the pronunciation of the word, rather than the meaning. Learning about the importance of intonation and stress to change the importance of a sentence or statement when you put the emphasis on different words in a sentence e.g JOHN is going to school. Says that it is JOHN and not Andy or someone else. To know that I am talking about JOHN. John is going to SCHOOL. He is not going to work, but school. So by the stress on SCHOOL, I know where he is going. How sounds are formed as well as how they are formed were helpful to learn about. To know that \"M\" is a nasal and bilabial sound, etc.
