This unit focuses on teaching the productive skills: speaking and writing. The difference between accuracy and fluency are discussed in the speaking portion of the unit. Accuracy activities focus on using the language 100% correctly (ex. drilling). Fluency based activities focus less on being perfectly accurate and more on allowing the students some freedom to speak the language (ex. debating). Writing skills are equally as important as speaking skills and should be taught often. The unit makes note of the fact that many teachers leave writing activities for homework and it often does not get done. Writing should not be neglected. This unit also discusses, and provides examples of, a variety of games you can use for speaking and writing. Games are an excellent way to get the students engaged and having fun while learning.
