This unit covered lesson materials. There are two main types of lesson materials: authentic materials and created materials. Authentic materials come from the real world, i.e. they are newspaper articles, menus from restaurants, brochures, etc. These are great learning materials because they are topical, relevant, and from real life, thus giving students the confidence to be able to understand real life things in English. Created materials are created by the teacher, and are also very helpful because they can be more specifically directed toward the students, their current level, and the lesson. In this unit there were several examples of created materials which were very helpful to review. Lastly, the unit covered the advantages and disadvantages of course books, why/when they are used, etc.
