Being prepared for the unprepared is always good - and that is part of life in general but also when it comes to teaching English as a foreign language. It is very important to give some thought to the first lesson with new students and how to build rapport as this first lesson is crucial and will set the tone for the remaining course. The importance lies on having the awareness and the right tools for arising issues such as varying skill levels, class sizes, the use of native language, 'unwilling' students and difficulties when it comes to listening to audio recordings. This module re-emphasizes the importance of being prepared and having the right tools 'under the belt' to be prepared for those unexpected moments and difficulties. Having this confident base will make me a happy and successful tefl teacher.
