This unit gave an introduction to the basic parts of speech. It covered nouns, which Name people, animals, places, things, qualities, and states. Nouns can be subjects or objects in a sentence. Adjectives are words used to describe nouns. They can be comparative, such as taller or easier, or superlatives, such as tallest or easiest. Articles come in two types: definitive (the)and indefinite (a/an). 'The' denotes a specific noun and 'a' and 'an' refer to any noun of a group. Verbs can be doing verbs and denote an action, such as 'watch', or can be a "state verb"" such as 'seem' or 'appear'. Transitive verbs are followed by an object
