This unit covers the basic background of teachers and learners, and the qualities, roles, and responsibilities both present. This chapter explains what it means to be a good teacher, what roles they play and how they utilise those roles in differing settings. Aside from teachers, this unit also gives an overview on what it is to be a learner. It talks about the different characteristics and how different areas affect the learning progress such as age, cultural level, as well as motivation amongst other things. Through this chapter, I was able to comprehend a brief yet informative background on what it is to teach, and what it is to learn. I learnt that teaching is not a just simple procedure where you just pass down information from one to another. Factors such as how you deliver the information, especially in various settings, as well as being aware of the different qualities of each learner can play a big role in providing an effective teaching approach and environment. ", I have learnt that being a teacher does not only require teaching from the front of the classroom but also getting involved with students on a more personal level eg. being part of group activities and tutoring a pair of students etc. There are different roles to be played at different parts of class and also when a student is at a different level of their knowledge in English.
