I have learnt the main language learning and teaching theories used in history and today. In my opinion, people's needs, new psychological theories and thoughts shaped language teaching theories and this will go on. It seems that the most approved theory today is Jeremy Harmer's ESA theory. The teacher can also change the sequence according to the class, level etc. In engage part, teachers take attent?on, motivate students and involve them in the lesson, in the study part students practice the new language, do exercises and in the activate part students use the new pattern in a creative way I think. I have learnt that mistakes and errors are not same. Teachers should correct mistakes mostly in the study phase if necessary, in other phases fluency should be prior. Self-correction and peer correction are more beneficial for students. Finally, teachers should use correction codes for writing, for example for students' essays as I do, this will show the students what and where the mistake is. :)
