I learned I should have paid better attention in grade school! I'm sure I learned about conjunctions,auxiliary verbs, gerunds and prepositions Before, but this was fun to learn it all again and put it into the context of teaching it to a person without Natal knowledge of English. This section was admittedly difficult due to the level of detail that inherently comes with grammar. It opened my eyes to the necessity of understanding grammar as foundation of teaching English. Understanding the technical aspect of English also reinforces what native English speakers innately know about the language. Examples proved to be critical in retaining grammatical principles.
