This unit covered the use of a wide variety of materials that can be used in an English lesson. Materials can be many things, such as technology (DVDs, videos, cassettes), game materials, props, objects (realia), written materials such as newspaper articles, textbooks, and many more. This module covered the ways to use these materials, and their advantages and disadvantages. For example, I have studied the advantages and disadvantages of using a textbook. They are convenient, graded to students` level, helpful for inexperienced teachers, and easy to use. However, sometimes they are not culturally appropriate, and it is also a bad idea to use a textbook for an entire lesson. To combat these issues, we shoud omit, adapt, replace and supplement elements of a textbook in order to fit our students` needs.
