This unit explains in great detail all the known methods of teaching English to foreign speaking students of differing levels. There have been debates over the years as to which method produces the best results but regardless of the preferred method, the sequence Engage, Study, and Activate (ESA) is an effective way of bringing the students and the language together.
There are several ways to layer ESA but if done correctly, it will ensure ideal conditions for learning English as well as give the teacher a good amount of flexibility in conducting a class.
I have learnt that although there is no shortage of methods and activities in educating students, what matters most is their desire to apply themselves during the Activate stages in addition to how well a teacher can plan a lesson's activities to keep his/her student's minds fresh and interested.
