Teach English in Terrace - TESOL Courses
Unit 1 discussed the qualities that a good teacher and a good learner should have. For a teacher it is very important to be enthusiastic about your lessons because if a teacher is bored with the teaching material, the learner most certainly is. A good learning MUST have a desire to learn the language, otherwise they won't have the motivation to put the time into learning it. However, it is the teachers job to Foster that motivation in unmotivated students.
Unit 1 also dealt with the different levels of English language learners, as well as dealing with the differences of teaching young learners compared with teaching adults. As a teacher, it is very important to adapt your lessons to meet the students desires. It would be meaningless to give an advanced student a very basic assignment, and it would also be meaningless to give beginner level students a task that is far above their level of comprehension.
In conclusion, unit 1 deal with the necessary characteristics a teacher and learner should have, as well as explained the different levels of language learning and how to adapt to each level.
