Unit 13 covered pronunciation and phonology. It mainly includes intonation, stress, the phonetic alphabet, phonetic symbols and articulation. Very helpful and useful for me was the information about teaching techniques and info about when to teach pronunciation. I will try to give space to phonology as this area of language learning is often neglected.The people that I intend to teach are known to me. Their knowledge of English is VERY basic. I will be very challenged to teach them English if I have to somehow communicate these sorts of rules to them. I will have to work hard to determine how to help them become conversational without rule memorization. They would simply become discouraged and quit.
