Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification course. Each of our online courses is broken down into concise units that focus on specific areas of English language teaching. This convenient, highly structured design means that you can quickly get to grips with each section before moving onto the next.
This unit taught me the pros and cons of using different materials. It highlighted the need to supplement and be flexible with course books and not to rely too heavily on them. I also learned the nuances of choosing course materials and some helpful guidelines about when to choose authentic materials or create materials for each group of students. This unit taught me that time management in your lesson plan is important and the students should have time to reflect on what you taught them. I have also learned that my lesson plan should have a good foundation as to what I want to teach my class but it should be flexible enough to spend extra time on the things the students did not understand.
