Unit 1 discussed the different roles a teacher should employ to be effective in the classroom. A good teacher needs to be receptive to the needs, goals, and differing levels of ability of his or her students. It is important to also consider how the students view their teacher and what they expect from the class.
A good teacher should be patient, supportive, and energetic while acting as a model of native English, a facilitator, an assessor, a manager, a tutor, and even a participant among other duties. If a teacher can create a good balance between these roles and have a good rapport with their students, then the students are likely to respond well and bring energy to class. Being too friendly with students or having lessons that lack focus can lead to a decrease in classroom productivity and respect for the teacher. However, if a teacher is too overwhelming, corrects every mistake, or lessons are always teacher-based, then students will be too intimidated to take chances and lack motivation.
Thus, a good teacher can create a classroom environment that motivates students, facilitates participation, and encourages creativity and discussion. Of course a teacher should be knowledgeable of English, but communication and a good relationship with the students is key to effective teaching. In this section I have learnt the importance of the teacher - student relationship, by understanding the necessary qualities and skills required by both parties. Unit one was quite informative on many levels. I feel that it clearly stated what the common characteristics are of a good teacher. The relationship that the students have with their teacher is a very important one. If the teacher is understanding, kind, motivational, patient, and entertaining in the style of teaching it will only help the students to enjoy the learning process. The nine roles of a teacher that were described in this unit were very eye-opening. The fact that a teacher must wear different hats at different times throughout a class is something that we should all be aware of. The roles of participant and prompter are two roles that I find very useful. In my past teaching experience I am not sure if I used these two roles as much as it was necessary. I agree that a good learner?s ability to ask questions whenever they are unsure or having difficulty is a very good trait to have. It is quite interesting to read about the differences in the way adults and
young learners vary in learning styles. The six language levels, which are listed in unit one are good to keep in mind. We all factor into one of these categories with regards to our foreign language skills, and it?s good to finally have a more defined understanding of this. Although it is good to know the Common
european Framework?s six levels of language ability, I enjoy the former levels listed. It is very important for teachers to remember the differences in the different language levels and teach accordingly. This unit was good at explaining this in depth. For whatever reason the learners are taking English lessons we teachers must remember that we should try to motivate each and every one of them. If we are motivated and show that the English language is interesting and useful, then it is likely that the students will also follow suit. We teachers must show how much we care while also being sensitive to the needs of each and every student. This unit was very informative and useful for my future teaching endeavors.

With the various levels of language ability, each teacher should be mindful of the various roles they must take up during a lesson. It seems that younger, beginner-level learners need more of an organizer/participant/model from their teacher. Middle school-age learners may need to see more of a manager/facilitator/prompter teacher to help organize and encourage various activities and tasks that they may be very unwilling and unmotivated to do. Older students and higher-level learners may need more of an assesor/tutor/participant, as they will have more fluency and motivation to learn the language, therefore want more thorough feedback as well as a native speaking "partner"" (the teacher) to practice with."

Unit one talks about the roles, qualities and responsibilities of a teacher and a student. It generally explains the importance of passion in both teaching and studying a second/foreign language to be able to become motivated and determined. Reading this unit further my knowledge on how to become a better teacher and how to understand students of different levels. I have also learnt the important roles and responsibilities of a good teacher on teaching different levels with different age groups and how to motivate the them. But the most important thing I realised after reading this unit is to care much about the learning of the students. I mostly think of honing myself as a teacher more to be effective and good BUT actually, if you have good students, it is because of you as a passionate teacher who cares much whether the students understand what you are teaching and being motivated to study English and continue attending your class. I feel much more encouraged to become a better educator.

The unit #1 examines one general and mostly important question regarding teaching and learning, i.e who is a teacher in comparison with a student.
Talking about teacher or a student, we have observed different qualities that should be possessed by a good teacher or by a good student. Consequently, the main qualities of a good teacher are as follows:
- Kindness and patience;
- Self-deduction to the
job;
- The ability to motivate, etc;
While such qualities as:
- A desire to learn and experiment with the language;
- A willingness to listen to the language;
and others, can describe a good student.
Moreover, the role of a teacher in the classroom was clearly expound.
Despite all the facts mentioned above, several factors that can have a great influence on the success of a good learner, such as:
- age;
- learning experience;
- motivation;
- and others;
were brought to my attention as well. All those factors should be seriously considered and never be ignored.
We have also traced the most common breakdown of different levels of ability in the English language as well as the breakdown of 6 different levels established by Common
european Framework.
Talking about learners and their motivation, I was presented with a most common reasons for attending English classes.
To sum up, I may say that I learnt and assimilated different kinds of roles of a teacher, differences between them and an appropriate time for their usage. Furthermore, the breakdown of English levels gave me a clear idea of every level, pinpointing specific details of this or that level. Overall, the structure of this unit finally helped me to digest its' content and arrange all mentioned information in order in my mind.

This section taught what makes a good teacher, a good student, and what kind of challenges one can have with the different kinds of learners. It demonstrated the different levels of language and ability of students, as well as the benefits and disadvantages of the different levels. It also listed the different reasons for motivation and the teacher's duty to build and cultivate motivation. I have learned a lot from this first unit. The different responsibilities of a teacher and how they interact and can relate to students is important. A teacher is very essential in the success of a student, and they often need to take up different roles in order to help the student be successful. I personally believe that one of the most important roles of the teacher is to be a model. The model is often the only example of correctly pronounced English a student may have and it provides an opportunity to learn by example. Another important role of the teacher is a prompter. The promter encourages the students to use English. They also helps gently encourage students who are stuck to figure out what they are trying to say. I feel this is important in helping build confidence with a language when a student does something on their own or with only gentle proding. A good student also has a willingness and a desire to learn which is important because the teacher can give the student all the resources they need to learn English, but they can't force them to learn it. A teacher can, however, help build and maintain motivation and help

Teachers and Students was a great introductory unit explaining the different aspects of being a teacher and a learner and explained the qualities that make a good teacher, the different roles they perform in the classroom, as well as various issues regarding the language student. How a teacher behaves, interacts and motivates his/her students is a crucial element to having successful and happy to learn students
The good qualities of a teacher include: Kind and patient, a love for teaching, lively and entertaining, able to motivate, good subject knowledge, good rapport and interaction, equal involvement of students, able to correct without offending and able to give help on an individual bases. The teacher should really cares about his/her teaching, but care even more about the learning of the students.
The role of the teacher: There are essentially 9 roles a teacher can take on, all important and all should be used for effective learning. Typical roles are the manager, organiser, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource, model, monitor. A good teacher is able to switch between these roles appropriately.
Learners: There are a number of factors to consider when concerning a good learner, such as age, culture, language level and motivation to learn. General characteristics the successful students appear to possess are a willingness to listen, a desire to experiment, a willingness to ask questions, an ability to thinking about their own learning process and methods, an acceptance of error correction and a desire to learn.
Differences in adult students and young students: There are a number of differences that arise from the age of the learner which in turn effects the methods and approaches of a good teacher. Differences such as their learning experiences, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behaviour problems and life experience.
Cultural differences: A good teacher is aware of their students customs and differences that could affect the success of the class.

In my view of the lesson. The relationship between teachers and students is a complex issue. However, even if the teacher has never had a class to teach
Before as long as said teacher is very motivated in seeing that his/her students' learning and growing. With that being their main objective, the students will see that and become more motivated and continue attending class.

This unit has given me an understanding on the different roles, responsibilities and qualities that both teachers and students may bring to a classroom.
I have found particularly interesting the variety of roles that a teacher can employ at different stages of the class and course, and the different effects this can have in the learning process of the students.
I have also reflected on the importance of considering factors such as cultural background, age and language level when teaching and the different challenges and experiences that these factors may bring to the classroom.

This section has helped me reflect on the many different roles of the teacher in a classroom. It has been a long time since I have done any teacher training and this unit was a good refresher. When I eventually lead a class of my own I hope to play as many of these roles as possible. I hope I can balance my time between being the center of the classroom and blending in and allowing the students to learn for themselves. I would like to be a good model and also effectively prompt the students. I am a visual and hands on learner and although I know not everyone is I would like to incorporate as much diversity into my lesson plans as possible.

In this unit, I have learnt about a variety of different learning methods. This ranges from being the teacher, to just observing and monitoring but being their for the students when the need arises. I have also learnt about the different levels of learners and what I can expect from each level. Also, different things I will encounter depending on the age of learning. This unit is an introduction to teaching. It focuses on the different stages of learning and the characteristics of a good teacher. I have learned how to better prepare myself to be a successful teacher. I also learned how to distinguish the different language level. I thought this was a very helpful unit. To summarize the unit block, I would have to say that it provides a great introduction to basic starter teaching. It allows the reader to open their mind to the differences in the learning processes. One could take a general understanding of what teachers are, what levels of students they might encounter, and basic goals for each learning level. A teacher who is ready to support primarily focused on teaching the students not to be afraid of making mistakes and encouraging them in the way to a succesful task completion.

The unit focuses on giving a description of what is a good and bad teacher and student. It defines what it is to be a controller, organizer, assessor, tutor, facilitator and model. It explains that I should be flexible and use all these method's to teach depending in the country, culture, age and level the students have. It gives a description of what is considered a beginner, elementary, intermediate and advance level. These unit also describes the students weaknesses and strength depending on there age; for example an older students strength to learn English is that they are more focus. A child under seven learns faster however they get board easily and prefer learning by playing games, coloring and singing.

From reading this unit, I learned about the different roles of the teacher, and the various levels of understanding and motivation that the students are experiencing. I also learned that the teachers role in the classroom is to generally be as understanding and helpful as possible. I learned about the different roles of the teacher, and what makes a student a better learner. In turn, I also learned how the teacher can act to bypass some difficulties in the classroom, that someone who has not taken this course would not think of.

Good teachers can fill a variety of roles as need be, from organizer, to prompter, to resource. Good students are those who want to learn and who are willing to speak up, ask questions, and who are able to reflect upon the process of their language learning. The lesson also talked about the differences between adult and
young learners, the reasons why students would take an English course, and briefly went over the different levels of language ability.

Unite one gives an idea of what both a good teacher and a good learner should be like. It gives one an overview of the different levels of English knowledge a learner may have, as well as their different motivations for learning. A good teacher will not only know how to motivate and control their class but will know of the cultural, age, and motivational differences that affect the way students learn. This information along with the various rolls a teacher much play are what I find the most beneficial of the unit. If the teacher does not know what role to take during a lesson then the learners will not get the most from their experience. Taking on the proper role and presenting a good lesson is made easier by knowing who one is teaching, what their culture and skills are, as well as why they are learning the language.

A teacher should love teaching, but should care about the success of their students even more. By being a good teacher, it is more likely that you will have good students. A good teacher should engage the class, be kind and patient, be enthusiastic, and should
work to vary class content in order to interest the students. A teacher must consider various factors when preparing material such as age, learning experience, culture, behavior, and language level. The teacher should perform various roles and not function in one role too long. The teacher can act as manager and organizer, but also as an equal participant. This lesson has expressed in words what I have observed as a learner, but could not have specifically identified if asked. I am happy to say I now understand what makes good teachers, and what makes good students. I have learned that there are two important facets to a teacher: their personality, and their relationship with their students. If a teacher has a great personality, but no relationship with the students, they are missing half of the formula! Overall, a teacher must think of students' needs, both on a collective and individual basis.

In this lesson I learned what qualities make a good teacher, as well as the different roles that teacher must take on in order to effectively teach the students. Its important to find the right balance between these roles so that the student can, to a
degree, learn on their own, while still being guided and assisted by the teacher. By appropriately varying the role that the teacher takes on, it keeps the class interesting and holds the attention of the student. It's also important to know what makes a good learner. If you are able to identify a good learner, it will be much easier to then teach that student. On the other hand, if you are able to identify that the student does not have the qualities of a good learner, then you can be better prepared to handle that kind of student. Overall, having a good understanding of what makes a good teacher and what makes a good learner is essential to being effective in teaching.

young learners, how each could have challenges and as benefits to teaching them. As well as learning the characteristics of good learners. Learning the flip side of both, good learners and good teachers. The success of a classroom is dependent on the relationship between the students and the teacher. The teacher must be aware of the classroom culture, including cultural differences, age, ability, and motivators, while students should come to class motivated and willing to step outside of their comfort zone. When this happens, a good rapport is developed. I have learnt what in fact makes a good teacher and what roles a teacher should take in the classroom and how to use these effectively to get the best out of students.

I liked that this unit identifies traits of teachers,
young learners, and adult learners. I learned that teachers play many different roles throughout a lesson, and that the teacher must have a high awareness of themselves and their students. A teacher must evaluate the roles they play and must evaluate how their students respond to the lesson. I like how the unit divided up learners and the different characteristics each age group of learners bring into the classroom.

This unit has provided me the in-depth knowledge of learners and teachers alike. The different roles and qualities that teacher should possess are vital to the success of the students. Varying roles combined with good qualities of the teacher within the classroom framework help to provide a learning experience that facilitates a friendly environment that allows reciprocity between the teacher and the learner. On the other hand, this unit provided the qualities and different types of learners that a teacher would see in a classroom setting. A learner's success would stem from motivation, and the willingness to ask questions and by experimenting with the English language. Learner's abilities can be measure and quantified into different levels.

This unit makes me look back on when I was in school, grades 4-6 in particular. I am thinking about my teachers in those years and I can picture them doing every one of the teaching roles explained in this unit. I can think about me and the other students in the class and what kind of learners we were. Basically this unit just puts names to teaching & learning roles that I've seen and experienced my whole life, whether it was in grade school, college or one of many courses I've taken throughout my years. I have also done some
In-class tutoring, one-on-one tutoring as well as one-on-one drum lessons where I have used these roles quite often. This unit gives me a better understanding of what I was doing and why.

The main topics in this unit were foundational definitions of the various roles within the classroom (be that of the teacher and learner, or the various roles that one teacher may take on), as well as individual variations to take in mind (including the reasons for learning English, the language level the individual is already at, and their age and background). The unit reminded me to be mindful of all of these things when eventually teaching, and it was helpful in designating different levels of language comprehension and utilization that students may have.

From this first unit, I have been educated about the complex relationships between learner and teachers. As a teacher, I have studied and learned about the many different roles that will be expected of me as a teacher in my classroom. This knowledge will be very useful in the future when deciding which role is most appropriate to use through out each aspect of a lesson. I have further been educated as to the the types of students I might have the opportunity of encountering throughout my teaching experiences. The personal motivations, life experiences, and associated behavioral dispositions associated with each age grouping will be invaluable when developing lesson plans and creating the proper atmosphere of my future classes. Additionally, the different categorizations of language learning levels are valuable knowledge. This course has helped me to discern what it takes to be a great foreign language teacher, and how this balance in a classroom can best be achieved.

The most useful section from this unit was the different roles of the teacher: manager, organizer, assessor etc. It gave me a good idea of what to expect in the classroom and some of the different scenarios that will be coming up in the future. It was also helpful to reflect on the different age groups of students and what to expect in terms of their behaviour, such as the nervousness of the adults and the open mindedness of the younger students. I found it a bit difficult to memorize the different

They must know how to manage a classroom as well as know when and how to give individual attention. Knowing students and where they are individually is extremely important. To both assess and motivate students is essential to helping students improve and continually progress. Good students, both young and old, will want to learn, accept correction, and be willing to try new things. It's important to be able to assess where students are on a scale from beginner to advanced and help them see progress on the way. Reminding them why they wanted to learn in the first place (be it a career, education, or living in a another country) may help them push on during the difficult times.

What I have learnt from this unit is that a good teacher should be able to correct students without affecting their motivation. I am a English tutor now The section that struck me the most was the various roles a teacher must take on during a course. Whether it be as moderator or controller, organizer, participant, assessor, prompter, resource, tutor, or observer, the teacher's role can be fluid and change depending on the activity. The questions are a good summary of the unit. For questions from 15 to 19 item b might offend Arabian participants of this course as it might reveal a prejudice against them therefore another example could be formed. As I have a bachelors

These different aspects affect the teacher-student relationship, which in turn has a profound effect on the overall success of a teacher and his/her pupils. This unit began by looking at the qualities of a good teacher, four of which are focused on personality traits while the other five qualities focus on the relationship a teacher builds with his/her class. The most important goal for a teacher is that his/her students are truly learning. The teacher plays many roles in the classroom. A good teacher adapts. He or she knows which role to play under certain circumstances, and the teacher switches roles as needed. After examining the attributes and roles of a good teacher, Unit 1 shifts its focus onto the student. Factors such as age, culture, language level, and motivation influence how a student will learn. Age affects a student and any expectations they may or may not have of their teacher or course
work. Older learners bring many life and cultural experiences, perceptions, and emotions with them into the course, while younger learners have little or no expectations. Students learning a foreign language are classified into 6 different language levels based on factors such as vocabulary, sentence structure, understanding a variety of topics, accuracy, fluency, grammar, and knowledge of subtleties within a language. A well motivated learner is likely to succeed, and it is crucial for the teacher to help keep his/her pupils motivated throughout the course.

In this unit I became familiar with the qualities of a good teacher. I learned that in order to be a successful teacher it is important to love teaching and motivate students. I also learned that levels of English acquisition can be broken down roughly into 6 categories and more generally into three.

However, as the student ages, they may become more self-conscious and participate less. Depending on how motivated they are, they may become harder to teach. Motivation is what will lead a student to successfully reaching higher levels of English comprehension and ability. It is important to know where your student stands and how to facilitate learning for them. There is no set pattern, but instead teaching styles will change based on the students. I also learned that teaching higher level students means inspiring them to take responsibility for their own learning at times as they will be more conversational than younger ones and can feel as if they are hitting a wall.

This article was written with formal English and given details of the factors and reasons. But I think it is still a bit hard for a non-English speaking learner to absorb the information lacking examples. This unit focused on the basics of English grammar. As a native speaker of English, grammar comes very easily to me. This chapter has made me appreciate the struggle that non-English speakers must go through as they learn the different verb forms, prepositions, and where to place different adverbs. I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to learn something that I, and other native English speakers, can simply determine by the way it sounds.

While I knew most of the information in this lesson, it was nice to have a thorough explanation of each part of speech. I have gained a bit more knowledge on how to explain each part of speech in a way that is slightly more easy to understand. Breaking down each categories into sub-categories was especially helpful, and has helped me to understand further. I feel more confident now in regard to my ability to explain each part of speech to my students, so I'm very grateful for that!

This is unit is an introduction to grammar and it explains how different words are put together to make a sentence and how each words can be classified. This classification of words is called parts of speech. I knew that words can be classified, but did not know that verbs can be classfied into so many different types and that there are so many parts of speech such as gerunds. I felt that I should know this basic grammar firmly in order to teach students.

Unit 2: Parts of Speech gives a brief overview of sentence structure and the contents that can make up a full sentence, including adverbs, prepositions, articles, etc. Certain difficulties faced by teachers are outlined as well, including how to explain the order of adjectives. Another useful thing in this unit is the explanation of rules for transitive and intransitive verbs, and outlining some areas which have no rules and require memorization, such as irregular noun plurals. I found this unit very helpful and look forward to getting deeper into grammar in future units.

In this unit I learnt about the different parts of speech. The first part of the unit taught more basic and simple parts such as nouns and verbs whilst the latter part of the unit taught about more complex and obscure ideas, such as pronouns, and gerunds. Overall I felt I understood the whole lesson although some ideas towards the end of the lesson were more difficult to grasp.

This Unit helped me differentiate the different forms of speech used in the English language. As a native English speaker making such distinctions is never done, even though we might know how to use them properly. It was also a rather humbling experience seeing as it is rather difficult to remember definitions and experiencing the challenge that a non-native speaker would have to go through.

The following unit is full of material that I have not gone over in quite some time. Some of the information I knew quite well, but some of the other parts I needed a great deal of freshening up on such as transitive verbs, gerunds, again various verb forms and types of nouns. I had to go back over these forms several times during the task sheet but I feel it helped a lot when I took the test.

This lesson was a lot more challenging and I had to re-learn skills that I have forgotten over 40 years are when I was in elementary school, WOW. Their were rules that I had just forgot and had ro re-learn or re-connect with and other rules I did not even knoew that I had to re-learn. this was a very in-depth and very good lesson that I would recommend to all English speakers to re-learn the basics of the language that they speak.

Examples given in Unit 2 aid comprehension of the parts of speech. I have learned to differentiate between various parts of speech. In particular, i have learned about the transitive and intransitive verbs which i was previously unaware of.

Before reading this unit. I reviewed it twice and I was very happy with it. I look forward to knowing about any games or activities that would help me teach grammar in courses and to students I tutor in the future. Unit 2 is about grammar, it has taught me how to properly structure sentences. It has taught me the more in-depth meaning of parts of speech, and when they are to be used. It has also taught me that when using more than one adjective, a pattern is usually used, size ? age ? colour ? material.

This unit focused on the major parts of speech, giving examples of form and usage. A lot of the information provided in this unit was a basic overview because certain parts of speech are more complex than others and require more time spent for adequate understanding. I took away from this unit several terms with which I was previously unfamiliar. As a native English speaker, I am well aware of how to transform a verb into its various forms, but never really paid attention to the
Names of those forms, such as the past participle. It is good to be able to see a conjugated verb and call said form by its name. I also learned a term I had never come across
Before, gerunds. I have of course used gerunds in my English on countless occasions, but never knew that they were treated like nouns (even if I accurately treated them that way due to sentence context). Once again, it is useful to be able to call this verb form by its proper name.

It is easy to see why English can be so confusing to people who are not native speakers of the language. There are so many rules to remember and appropriate line of order to the way sentences are formed, both written and verbally. It is important to get the basics right
Before moving on. This unit was a great review of the parts of speech for me! It is easy to choose correct formations of sentences, but much more difficult to state the rationale for those choices. I was reminded of the many verb forms (especially the participles)as well as the methods to explain them. This section was basically about basic grammar rules. It helped refresh my memory on grammar terminology, sentence structure and grammar rules. It included an overview of nouns, adjectives, adverbs, articles, pronouns, verbs, conjunctions, prepositions, and gerunds. The unit defined different the different types of speech, the rules and the exceptions as well as a decent array of examples.

This unit introduces parts of speech which includes nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns and prepositions/conjunctions.
1. Nouns
There are mainly five
Types of nouns: common nouns, proper nouns, compound nouns, abstract nouns and collective nouns. Nouns can be sub-categorised into countable nouns and uncountable nouns. When changing nouns into their plural forms, there are several rules to be taken, as well as exceptions.
2. Adjectives
Adjectives modify nouns. There are rules about the sequence of adjectives in a sentence. Reading will help students on this topic.
Adjectives have three
degrees: positive, comparative and superlative. When comparing two things, comparatives are adopted. Superlatives are used when comparing three or more things.
3. Articles
There are two types of articles: indefinite (a, an) and definite (the).
Article an should be used
Before a singular noun which begins with a vowel pronunciation.
There are certain rules about the use of the. Students are to remember them.
4. Verbs
Verbs describe actions and state of being.
There are two types of verbs: transitive and intransitive verbs. Transitive verbs are followed directly by an object, while intransitive verbs cannot be followed directly by an object. Some verbs can be both transitive and intransitive.
Infinitive is also referred as a verb.
There are four types of verb forms: base form, past simple, past participle and present participle. Some of them are regular and others are irregular. Students are to remember them.
There are also auxiliary verbs, which help form a tense or an expression.
5. Adverbs
Adverbs describe manner, place, time,
degree and frequency.
6. Gerunds
To form a gerund, add -ing after a verb which forms a noun.
7. Pronouns
There are four types of pronouns: personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, reflective pronouns and relative pronouns.
8. Prepositions/conjunctions
Prepositions tell time, movements, places and positions. Preposition is difficult to master due to the fact that there is no uniformity when placing a preposition.
Conjunctions connect words or groups in a sentence. There are three types of conjunctions: coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions.
I reckon the teaching strategy for parts of speech should focus on explaining clearly the function of each type of part of speech. To take adverbs as an example, as a teacher, I am to clarify that an adverb modifies verbs, adjectives and adverbs, and to explain that an adverb tell when, where, how, and to what extent, in this way students could easily identify adverbs in a sentence.

This unit identified the various parts of speech and the functions they perform in an English language sentence.
I feel I have learned a great deal about the general grammar of English but realise there is a lot more
work to do. As native speakers we use grammar all the time but don't have to think about how it
works or even what the parts of speech are called. I knew some basic terms like nouns, verb, adjectives, etc. but it was good to familiarise myself with some of the more tricky terms like gerund or possessive pronouns etc. with the view to studying grammar in more depth later in the course.

This was a huge help for me. I needed to relearn the basics of grammar. Prepositions show the relationship between pro /nouns and the other word in the sentence. It was also very helpful to go over the many forms of verbs, especially in the irregular form and helps me to realize how hard it will be to memorize all of these as a student.

I learned about the different parts of speech including nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, articles, prepositions, adverbs and conjunctions. I learned the difference between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives. I learned that auxiliary verbs is not the main verb that carries the meaning but rather it helps the main verb. I learned the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs. Transitive verbs are followed by an object.

In this unit I learned about the parts of speech. I learned about nouns and the kind of nouns such as countable and uncountable nouns. I learned about adjectives which are the words that describe nouns. Within that I learned about possessive adjectives and that they would typically have a noun following them, something I was unclear about in the past. There are also comparative adjectives (comparing 2 people or things) which typically end in -er and superlative adjectives (comparing more than 2 people or things) which typically end in -est. I also learned about verbs, which are action words, and adverbs which describe verbs. I was again reminded of what auxiliary verbs are, also known as the helping verbs-be, have, am. I learned about definite (the) and indefinite (a/an) articles. I learned about conjunctions (and, or, but) and that they link a list of places or things together. I learned about prepositions and how they help connect the noun/pronoun with the rest of the sentence. Gerunds was something I don't remember having learned in elementary school, a verb ending in -ing that is used as a noun. There was a lot in this unit and one that I feel would be difficult for students of a foreign language to learn. It would probably take a lot of worksheets, practice, and fun activities to really understand and learn the parts of speech.

This unit teaches parts of speech, how many there are, what they mean, and how to identify them in a sentence. There are eight main parts of speech: 1) nouns, 2) adjectives, 3) verbs, 4) adverbs, 5) pronouns, 6) gerunds, 7) articles, and 8) prepositions/conjunctions. I learned that prepositions show a relationship between a noun or pronoun to the rest of the sentence. Prepositions can show the relation of a time, a place, or a movement to the rest of the sentence, for example, please place the plant between the pillars. The word between relates the pillars to the rest of the sentence.

Grammar is one of the toughest thing, in my opinion, to teach in an English language class. A continuous review and practice is much needed and many forms of practices for students (and even teachers) would be necessary to ensure comprehension. The content of this section was very clear and concise and covered the basic grammar structure of English. It was a helpful refresher and a way of defining parts of a sentence that native speakers use everyday without knowing the technical term for it. this unit helped me to further my understanding of the English grammar and the various parts of the speech that can be used to form proper English sentences. It helped me to better understand nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and definite articles. I also learned about superlative adjectives as well as comparative adjectives.

This unit has really highlighted the complexity of the English language and shown me how difficult it can be for Foreign Students to form sentence structures, which I take as granted as a native English speaker, especially considering the irregularity of rules we use to determine tense. I have learnt how each part of speech can be broken down to certain areas and how sentences are linked together. I really learnt from watching the supporting
video as this showed me how this can be explained in a classroom environment.

It's very interesting that all the things that we learnt from school are easily forgotten when
applied to our own language on a daily basis and that sometimes reading these rules again can be a little confusing at times. I guess I will uses this lesson as a reference, since it is impossible to memorize all these rules to the detail.

This lesson was great for reviewing the basic parts of speech. I can definitely use the material from this unit in my classroom. There were many simple and easy to understand examples provided. The section about indefinite and definite artcles was very clear and helpful in understanding their differences. Also, I am more cognizant of the different types of nouns after this unit.

Well the unit has been very useful in understanding the parts of speech and basic grammar of the English language. As the unit mentions, native speakers tend not think about these aspects of grammar, even though we speak perfect English. However, I did learn some of these grammar points in school but I could never understand them and what they mean. After reading this unit and taking my time with it, making sure I understand the material, I feel I have a better understanding of basic English grammar. It has already started to help me improve my own teaching in class, because I can explain some of the reasons behind the different words and why they are placed where they are.

This unit has been a good introductory review in grammar for me. There are many words that I use correctly in my every day speech and writing but I now realize, I have no idea why. After completing this section I will be purchasing a book to supplement my learning so that I am better prepared to teach to learners of the English language.

This unit has taught me the different parts of speech, when to use and when not to use particular parts such as possessive adjectives versus possessive pronouns. it gives many examples of the different parts of speech which help clarify the different usages. the task sheet in this unit showed me that I am a bit unsure when to use what, but my tutor helped me with this.

The content in this unit focused on grammatical concepts which a native English speaker may not even recognize or be aware of in their own daily use of the language. The lesson described the nature and variations of crucial grammatical elements like verbs, adjectives, prepositions, and also spoke of some potentially lesser known word functions like gerunds. This lesson really demonstrates how much is going on in language and the importance of understanding these processes. It is easy to see how never having been taught, at least explicitly, the extensive grammar of one's own language can create a disconnect between the teacher and student;not understanding grammatical concepts would result in an inability to put yourself in an ESL students shoes.
