As a teacher I have experienced lots of different situations in the classroom and one must be ready for everything. Sometimes it is a question, sometimes it is a behaviour, sometimes it is even a personal doubt that can change utterly a class and one must be ready for that, or at least, flexible for that. Mistakes and misunderstandings do happen, but if one is open to learning, all will be part of a development process.

As this was the first unit I completed with a test component for this course, I felt that it was a good introduction. It took less time than I anticipated, as the concepts were rather basic, which is understandable in the first unit. Overall, it was satisfactory and I feel I am competent in the topics covered. I have learnt about what being a good teacher entails, how to inspire good learners, and how to adapt different roles in the classroom. It was very interesting and I felt I learnt a lot about the roles of teachers, the qualities that make a good teacher and a good learner, as well as how to define the English level of the students.

In this Unit we examined qualities, roles and responsibilities of both teachers and students in the classroom. It?s Important as teacher to always be fair, have good subject knowledge and motivate your learners to be the best learners. Looking at learners, we get good learners if we have good teachers. The content of this unit has taught me how to be a good teacher and what things needed to build a good relationship between students and teachers. It has also taught me that each different classes of ages and levels of capabilities need a different method of teaching. It was interesting to read about the various positive qualities of a teacher because a number of these formed reciprocal relationships with those values associated with a good student. I found Unit 1 to be a decent introduction to the roles of the teachers and students in a classroom. Keeping in mind the list of the different roles that a teacher can play (managers, prompters, etc.) seems like a great way to balance daily classes, especially if a teacher were to intentionally rotate their primary role in the lessons from day to day in order for the students to experience a variety of different learning methods.

I thought it was interesting to examine the specific roles of the teacher. It made me examine my own classes and think of different ways to engage my students. For example, I feel that I tended to have too much structure in my group-based exercises and I thought about how I could observe the students more and perhaps give feedback at the end of the exercise. By taking notes about each students performance, I can have a better overall gauge of what they need to
work on and improve.

I found this segment very useful as some foundation knowledge to teaching. The role of the teacher varies, depending on what the learning goals are, the activity, or the students themselves. Next, the unit covered what makes a good learner, and different factors that contribute to learning such as motivation and age. A comparison between adult and
young learners was made. The material on age differences and motivation was relevant to me, as an ESL teacher in Asia - a topic I struggle with in my classrooms. It can be very difficult to motivate a group of middle school students who are nervous, embarrassed to make mistakes, or who do not want to be there. Overall, I think this was a good introductory unit.

This unit covers basic elements of teachers and learners. I have learnt about the different levels of language ability and how this impacts the way you teach and the different styles in which a teacher can teach students. This unit focussed on ways of connecting with students by looking at their level and the teacher's teaching style. From unit 1, I have learned that there are many qualities to being a good teacher, including being able to motivate the class, monitor them, organize activities, assess their progress, etc. I also understand that students' learning motivations differ with age, experience, and personal qualities of the students. Therefore, lessons must be adjusted accordingly. From Unit One I have learned the multiple traits that compose a great teacher. Motivation, skill level, and age are just some of the areas to consider when designing a lesson plan and different parts of the world have varying opinions on the way a teacher should behave and how a lesson should be executed.

I would say that what I've learned from this unit is that there is far more that the teacher must be involved in rather than just teaching English, his role as a teacher is just one of the responsibilities that they have, and more a case of nurturing motivating each student according to his or her ability and making sure that progress is being made for each student until they attain the level of English required, and I believe that once progress is made and the student has reached the level that they require, the rewards must be great for both the student and teacher.

This unit taught me how important the relationship between the teacher and the learner in an educational setting. The teacher can be called effective when he possesses the roles of a good teacher such as a manager or controller, organizer, assessor, prompter and tutor, to mention a few. On the other hand students can learn if they are receptive learner possessing the good qualities of a good learner such as a desire to learn, willingness to listen to the language and an acceptance of error correction. In order for a teacher to pass on the knowledge to the students he should first and foremost understand every student in the classroom. The age, culture background, weaknesses and strengths and life experience have to be considered by the teacher during teaching. The teacher who has a wide range of understanding every student plus the attitude of being a good teacher wouldn't find hard teaching at all.
Therefore, teach not to teach for the sake of teaching but rather to teach for the sake of helping an individual to change for the better because every individual matters.

I think the most difficult thing to overcome for me within the lesson is being more outgoing and enthusiastic because I am naturally extremely shy and unsure. I need to study and know my subject so that confidence forms and I feel like I am someone, even if I am younger, that my students can benefit from because I have studied my topic to the best of my ability. The information from this unit is simple and basic but very important. In this unit, I learned that different people define good teachers and good learners in different ways. A good teacher may be defined by his or her personality (caring, open, etc) or by the things he or she does (having good knowledge of subject, facilitating different types of learners). A good learner should be motivated. For me, this is an interesting issue because it caused me to think about where motivation does and should come from. Should motivation be provided by the teacher or should a student come because they are motivated. I went to school on a small island that was a former British colony, and we use the British school system. Up until 5th form (16 yrs old), teachers push students to excel. 16 is the end of mandatory education, so there is an assumption that you have chosen to be there. Teachers stop pushing, and I've always wondered if that lack of a push in fact could be a de-motivator.

This lesson has helped to clarify the differences between child-adult learners as well as the different learning levels. That motivation is continuously highlighted as important is of no surprise, as no student with minimal motivation does well in any class. This Unit discusses the atributes of a good teacher and a good learner. A good teacher is one who is kind, patient, loves teaching, lively and entertaining, motivating, has a good subject knowledge, can develope a good rapport with students, can point out their mistakes without demotivating them, can involve all students in an activity equally, knows the weakness of the students and can give them individual attention when necessary. She/ he also takes on many roles in a class, such as the role of a manager, organiser, assesor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource, model and observer depending on the activity taking place in the class and the purpose of the activity.
The Unit then moves on to discuss a good learner, his/her attributes and the challenges the teacher may face depending on the age of the learner. A good learner must have a strong desire to learn and better his language. He should be motivated to do his best, willing to take risks with the language, asking doubts when he has them and accepting the comments of the teacher in the most positive light, without being offended.
Learners can be classified into three broad groups: the group of early teens, the gropu of
children in between age 8-12 and finally those younger than 7. Each group has it's own good and bad qualities and it is up to the teacher to decide what mode to adapt inorder to get them closer to their goals.
The Unit also talks about six levels of language. Beginners level, Elementary level, low intermidiate level, intermidiate level, upper intermidiate level and advaced level. Each activity corresponds to a certain level and it is upto the teacher's descreation to decide which level should do which activity.
Finally, the Unit lists six reasons that motivate learners to educate themselves with English Language. They are: for better
job prospects, for better academic performance, to be able to comunicate to friends and community members, for the love of the language, to settle in an English speaking country and for travel purpose.",

In this unit I learned a lot about the different roles of a teacher and the levels of student progress. I believe I knew all the roles of a teacher to begin with, but I did not know how to put them to words, so that was a good section for me. It was also helpful for me to learn how to categorize students because that was a problem we had at the last English school I worked in. We often had 6 or 7 year olds more advanced than an 8 year old, and therefore they needed individual lesson plans. Hopefully, being able to categorize future students by level instead of age will help me in the future.

I feel that the relationship between teacher and student is the most important point here, there has to be respect on both sides. The students wont be motivated or happy with their lesson if the teacher spends too much time just talking and lecturing, the lesson needs to stay alive and its up to the teacher to keep them motivated to learn. I learned that a good teacher will care more about students than teaching, and will be able to assist very well without interfering, but also be able to take control when necessary. They will also have a good knowledge base for the subject matter. Good learners will be passionate, willing to answer/ask questions and take criticism, and have a general desire to learn about and listen to the language. The skill of a learner matters very much when forming methods of teaching and activities, as you do not want to give a beginner-level student impossible material. Likewise, you do not want to give an advanced learner
work that is offensively simple. Age also factors into teaching language, in that older learners may be receptive to different things than younger learners are. I also learned that whatever the motivation is for a learner to learn the language, as long as the motivation is there, it will very much assist in the learning process.

From this unit I have learned that a good teacher should be sensitive to the needs of his or her students; this means knowing when to keep distance from the students and allow them to learn for themselves and knowing when to move in and have a more hands-on approach to teaching.
Teaching is not simply lecturing but allowing the students to learn on their own and by doing so will keep the initiative of the student alive. I hope that my lessons will be fun, interesting and useful for my students and if so the students will be motivated to learn more.

The goal of this unit was to identify key characteristic of learners, teachers, and the interaction between teachers and learners. It discussed some factors like kindness, patience, enthusiasm that are typically components of effective teachers personalities. It also described various roles of teachers ranging from participants in class activities to being the manager and controller of when and how class activities will take place. Additionally, there was a discussion of characteristics of good learners which can be summarized as having an interest and willingness to learn and being actively engaged in the process of learning.

I've also been enlightened on how to interact with distinctive categories of learners ranging from Beginners to Advance/Young to Adults.

Learners have many levels, ranging from beginner to advanced, and have different challenges in each level. There are multiple ways to classify learner levels. Last, there is a variety of factors that make for good teachers and learners.

This to me was more of a review than anything. It was basic foundations of education that I had previously learned but was also interesting to see how
tefl fits into everything. It was interesting to me in the sense that no matter where you go in the world the basic fundamentals of classroom management are there. I would have liked to have read a bit more about how the student/teacher relationship is in various countries but I am sure that will come at a later time.

This unit covers the relation and roles between teachers and learners. In order to be a good teacher, one must have knowledge of the subject they are teaching, be able to motivate the students and demonstrate fairness. The combination of these will help create a bridge between the learners and their teachers for the goal to see the learner improve. As a teacher, my role will continue to change as I seek to teach diverse learners by various means. There will be times for Organizing and facilitating activities, managing new material through some lecture and motivating students as an example, prompter and model of the English language.
The direct relation and content from the teacher must also be received and pursued by the learner. Students truly seeking to learn the material will ask questions frequently when they do not understand, be at some point a self motivator and willing to practice the language outside of set class time. Through this lesson, I have learned how to assess each students language learning abilities in both general terms (Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced-Intermediate and Advanced) and the
european Framework. I now understand the difference of level between the Intermediate level learner who can discuss a variety of topics while still lacking fluency and accuracy, the Advanced-Intermediate learner who does lack accuracy but can discuss even more variety of topics and the Advanced level learner who can discuss a broad range of topics and only needs to learn subtle vocabulary. I have had locals where I live who had school training in English, but looking to improve as adults. Many do not know their own level or abilities. This will help me weigh their level and how I can help them grow in the English language.

Unit 01 reminded me that teachers take on a variety of roles when seeking to do their
job well. It isn't good to get pigeon-holed into one style, but rather each role has a specific time and place when it should be used. As a teacher in China, I am dismayed when I see teachers consistently give 90 minute lectures with no student activities. The teachers often make the focus all about themselves. Students will likely lose motivation to come to class or care about it if they aren't challenged to think for themselves and experiment with language. This unit also reminded me that adult learners face different hang-ups than younger learners, such as a desire to save face. Younger
children are often more willing to go along with the teacher and try activities, even if they are not very proficient in English. Overall, teachers and students have certain responsibilities, but most of the weight is on the teacher.

The main thing I learned in this Unit related to the language levels and the
european Standards. I am a teacher and am aware about the roles a teacher should have and the importance of a teacher in relation to students' learning. Nonetheless I feel it was a good introduction to the course. Basically looks at what types of teaching methods there are and at what level of english speaking proficiency learners can be at. Also discusses why somebody may want to study english and the types of people you can expect to teach. The biggest thing I learnt was the different teaching methods and how they can be
applied The interaction between Student and Teacher is not entirely dependent on the skill of the Teacher. The ability and motivation of the Student is crucial in the learning process. A sympathetic Teacher will endeavor to make learning a comfortable and a rewarding experience for even the most demanding Student.

The first unit of the course focused on the attributes and qualities that good teachers and good students should have in order for the teaching and the learning to be successful, as well as some of the differences between adult learners and
young learners and the difference in language levels of the students. For me personally, the most interesting part was the section about the various roles that a teacher should be able to employ at different stages during a lesson depending on the activity that the students are engaged in. I feel like I have learnt a lot from this;
Before studying this unit I wasn't really aware of the many different roles that a teacher can have and the importance of being able to appropriately switch between these roles. Becoming aware of this, feels very valuable and meaningful. Overall, I feel this unit gave me both practical tips and knowledge as well as an insight into what makes a good teacher and what is needed to be successful at teaching.

Unit one is a summary of the qualities that a good teacher and good student possess. Furthermore, it elaborates on the appropriate behaviors that these qualities should yield. This unit also contrast the differences between teaching students of different ages, cultures, and specifically students with different language abilities.
I have learned a great deal in this unit. Being one who has limited experience in teaching English, it was very educational to learn that teachers need to be very "liquid"" and open-minded in order to appropriately adapt their teaching methods to cater to the student. I didn't realize that a good teacher needs to focus so much more on the student

Good teachers should be kind and patient, really love teaching, be lively and entertaing, to have a good subject knowledge, to ne rapport and interaction with the class, to be able to motivate students and to know the students' weakness and to try to deal with those weakness. While a good student should have a willingness to listen to the language and ask questions, to have a desire to experiment with the langauge and to have acceptance of error correction. This unit provides a coure-taker with a general view of the teacher-student relationship, and how it should be, along with giving a right picture of how a good teacher and a good student should be like. The characteristics mentioned here are telling and summarative to the real picture of the teacher and the student. The style and language used in this unit are so simple and easily comeperhended. The unit has a very well organized and informative content, beside being a good start to begin the road of this course. Under each point metioned there are either some examples or comperisons to clerify this point. Or the point is explained with a simple picture of what is going on in different classrooms, which makes the learner feel or see himself/herself in that particular situation or condition.I really like how this unit keeps it nice and easy and at the same time helpful to learners.Not to miss the task sheet at the end of the unit, which helps the learner to self-test himself/herself and to guide our mind to how the test will be like. I hope that what I have learned here will guide me along in this course and in my teaching career. When I took the test I found it really valid and it took me few minutes to complete, but then I found this part, which I feel that it has a kind of a technical problem, because I wrote down more that 50 words, but it still dose not want to accept it and to take me to the result page. So I want to know what is the problem here, it is 50 words you need or 500 words. Thank you (The following words should not be counted, because I am just jotting down words to convince the system that I exceeded the 50 words.... This unit explained the different roles of the teacher in the class room and how each role could be approached. Each role is valid and necessary for the students to have a complete education experience. A teaching that talks the whole time will not in turn teach the students to speak, but only to listen. Also this unit went over the different types of students from advanced to beginner and why people choose to become a student of the English language. Reasons for learning English range from fun to business. Both level and reason for learning is important to understand to effectively teach a language.

Good as a start to this course - reasonably straightforward and makes sense, follows a format which makes it easy to make concise study notes. This should be an interesting course... I especially like the different roles and identifying a good time to switch between roles should be very useful and definitely easier as you get more experienced. Roles are probably the most useful part of this section.

The content of this unit focused mainly on relationships between the teacher and students. What makes a good teacherlearner and the differences between and among them. I feel I have learned from this unit that sometimes when teaching less is more in terms of approach. The inverse is also true. Knowing when to intervene and when not to intervene are very important qualities a teacher must possess. People need to be allowed to discover language on their own in some circumstances but also need to be guided at other times. A very important part of this unit is the concept that not all learners are the same. Some are older, younger, braver, more timid etc. These qualities should not be an inhibiting factor for a teacher but a base used to understanding individual differences among learners. Patience and understanding will always prosper in these situations.

This unit focused on what makes a good teacher and a productive student, student motivations, as well as the basics of assessing a student's level. I have learned that successful teachers must take on a variety of roles and must have a keen awareness as when to fill each role. Sometimes an ESL teacher must be a manager and take control of a class, sometimes they must be a facilitator to give students a chance for practice, and also be able to correct obvious mistakes without damaging a student's confidence and motivation. Motivated students are much easier to teach, so if the students are not intrinsically motivated, the teacher must find new ways to engage those that are less inclined to participate.

I have gained a greater insight into the qualities of both a good teacher and a good learner. I have learned that this a time and place for the various roles of a teacher and that the key to is knowing when it is time for the teacher to adopt the appropriate role. During this unit we have read and learned about what qualities a good teacher should have as well as the different roles a teacher may have during classes, taking into consideration that many of them can be used in a single class depending on the activity that is being run. We have also had information about what is necessary to be a good learner and the aspects that may influence in students motivation while learning a second language. In this part, we saw the difference in the students's language level along with the Common
european Framework and its six different denominations. Overall it was a good review of some topics I have already had contact with as well as a good insight in some others that were not very clear or were totally unknown to me.

First we discussed about the desirable characteristics a teacher should have in order to become a good teacher and therefore succeed in his teaching career. It's also presented to us the different English proficiency levels according two different standards. Then, we discussed about the different characteristics presented by different students, including age related characteristics.
As a reader/student I must say that I was surprised by the content of the Unit 1 of this

It was pretty interesting to know about teachers? and learners? roles in the class. I also learnt English in Ireland. It was easy to know the language levels and how language levels are called. I was also surprised that there were so many roles as a teacher, because I thought teachers only needed teaching skills, but I learnt teachers could be in so many different roles depending on situations such as a manager, organizer, Assessor, participant and model. Furthermore, this lesson made me think how I can teach students English, How I can lead them in the class and what kind of teaching ways can be effective. Lastly I learnt who a good teacher is and who a good learner is. When I was learning about comparing between younger learners and adult learners, I thought young learner would learn English better than adult learners. I found out
young learners could be in behavior problems and it is hard for them to discuss a variety of topics. On the other hand, adult learners are more motivated to learn English than young learners and they can talk about different kind of issues. Finally, it was great to have this lesson.

I found this unit to be very informative. While of course I use all these language devices in every-day speech it was wonderful to have them all laid out and clearly defined under categories I hadn't paid much attention to since my early days of schooling. I feel I have learnt from this how to clearly categorise elements of English grammar into definite sections which I hope can provide some stability and certainty for students, who would otherwise be lost in the myriad of uncontrollable English jargon.

This unit focused on the basics of English grammar, in terms of it's context and usage within a full sentence. It introduced the types of words, how they can be identified, how they are used and why they are used. It aimed to provide the established rules that can be readily
applied, and highlighted many examples where the rules do not naturally apply. In this unit I learnt how to recognise, understand and apply grammatically correct English. I have been refreshed on the complexity of English grammar, and the best way to approach this from a simple perspective in order to communicate it to students. I have expanded my knowledge on the more specific types of grammar and am now able to identify and apply these in written and spoken word. Most importantly I have learnt that grammar is best learned through ongoing contextual practise - the more students hear and speak natural flowing English grammar, the easier it will be for them to comprehend and utilise it on their own.

In Unit 2 we learned how to recognize and classify the parts of speech that form a sentence.We found that the simplest sentence consists of a subject and a verb,but that it can become a lot more complex depending on how descriptive you want to be.We learned about the different types of nouns and how to make them plural.Then we were told that adjectives are used to help describe or compare the nouns.Next we learned that there are two types of articles,the definate(the)and the indefinate(a and an),and when and where they should be used.Then we were told that verbs are not just 'doing' or action words,but they can also be states.Verbs can either be transitive or intransitive.Transitive verbs can be followed by an object,while intransitive verbs cannot.There is also the infinative verb'to',which proceeds the base form of the verb to refer to the action as a whole.We were taught about the four basic foms of both regular and irregular verbs.Last of the verbs were the auxiliary verbs which help to form a tense or expression.
Adverbs add meaning or give information about an action.We learned the types of adverbs and where they go in a sentence.I learned that the -ing ending of a verb used as a noun is called a Gerund.
A Pronoun is used in place of more presise nouns.They can be personal,possesive,reflexive or relative.A Preposition is a kind of connecting word: it joins a noun, a pronoun or any nominal (a word or word group acting as a noun) to another word in a sentence and shows the relationship between them.

Unit 2 is about the basics of the English grammar. It discusses the different parts of speech such as nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds and infinitives, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions. I am not going to get into detail, but I would like to point out some aspects of several parts of speech which are likely to be difficult for learners of English.
Nouns: irregular plurals and nouns ending in s, sh, ch, x, o, y.
Adjectives: order and different forms for comparatives and superlatives.
Articles: special use of zero article.
Verbs: irregular verbs and auxiliary verbs.
Adverbs: position of adverbs in the sentence.

Unit 2 parts of speech talks about what makes a proper sentence. Every word in a sentence has a role weather it's the noun, adjective, verb, etc. this unit also provides examples of exceptions to the rules. For example, you have two feet as a posed to having two foots. What I really liked about this unit was the breakdown of all the different types of nouns, verbs,adverbs, and articles. The section with verbs was very helpful for me to understand what a transitive verb is versus intransitive verbs.

Although, I was already well aware of the basic parts of speech; I did learn several of the subtypes form this unit. First, I learned the difference between countable nouns which can be counted, and uncountable nouns which cannot be counted since they are intangible ideas. Second, I was reminded that only transitive verbs can be directly followed by an object. Finally, I learned how adverbs are categorized based on what they modify, such as the manner in which something is done, the frequency it is done, the place where something is done, etc.

Unit two explains grammar. It describes and explains the parts of speech and how to write a sentence. It defines verbs, adjectives, gerund, nouns among other parts of speech. I learned the names for parts of speech that I frequently use such as gerund. It was an interesting lesson because it provided me with a refresher and explains some of the grammar I used, but never really knew their purpose. While learning this lesson, I realize that I will constantly have to refer to this or other grammatical references once I start teaching.

In this unit I learned in depth the parts of speech. I was able to have a better understanding and grasp of what each part of speech does. Through this unit I have learned ways to make teaching grammar to my current students much easier. From sectioning each sentence and studying how words are placed in sequence, I learnt how to form grammatically correct sentences. By observing how a sentence is structured, I now have a better understanding to why each vocabulary is specifically needed to be placed in such order for it to create a legitimate sentence This unit taught me the names and usage of the parts of a sentence. I know how to use nouns, verbs, prepositions, adverbs, etc. almost instinctively from being a native English speaker. However, it is vital to learn the proper names of these sentence parts in order to teach non-native speakers the basics of English grammar.

This unit reminded me how we write with intuitions once a language is well acquired! But in order to be able to teach properly grammar to new student, it is essential to understand it again. Honestly part of the grammar is not that easy and I will have to make extra efforts when dealing with grammar topics such as possessive pronoun and possessive adjectives or prepositions and conjunctions. The second unit on parts of speech offered a clear and simple way of explaining the various elements in a sentence. It was a good review for me and I especially found the order of adjectives with the basic rule of size-age-colour-material helpful because one tends to put the adjectives in the correct order because it sounds correct rather than actually having a simple rule to follow.

In this unit my capabilities were really stretched. I learned about comparative adjectives many things I have never studied
Before. However, some of this was self exploratory as music cannot be counted. Musicians could be however musician is an uncountable noun.For a broken verb to mean its past participle broke is not anything I usually contemplated. So this was indeed a learning experience.

I really enjoyed to read this second unit because the lesson is build very well and it is easy to find the main information. In this lesson I have covered many grammatical aspects of the English language and their use including nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, articles, pronouns, gerunds, prepositions and conjunctions. This was a great refresher and resource. I feel this will greatly prepare me for teaching the English language to all foreign students.

There are so many parts to the English language and the parts of speech is probably the hardest to understand. There are quite a few exceptions which makes it that much harder for any non English speaker to understand. This unit certainly made me realise how involved the English language is and why foreigners say it's probably one of the harder languages out there.

I learned a more basic and descriptive use of the English grammar. I never really thought about how I used and formed my sentences. This lesson described the parts of speech in a simple manner to have the individual grasp the basic understanding of the English grammar. I learned also the differences between the parts of speech and how to use some that are more uncommon.

The many rules of english grammar can seem to be overwhelming to tackle, and I have to admit, I feel that there is so much that could be easily forgotten. Teaching these grammatical subjects can be scary not only for the students but for the teacher. The overall message of this lesson is that we should definitely be sharp in our knowledge of the english grammar rules, but also sensitive to the difficulties they might create for learners. Grammar must be taken one step at a time.

This unit really challenged me to increase the precision of my grammar knowledge. While I had a solid understanding of what the basic parts of speech were I had never considered breaking them down further, for example adjectives, then comparatives, then superlatives. I found the part on prepositions to be especially useful, given that there are so many different types and that I often confused possessive adjectives with possessive pronouns.

Understanding parts of speech is extremely important when learning to put a sentence together. While, I am varely familiar with grammar,this unit put parts of speech into more explicit detail. I learned a variety of basic grammar elements. This unit helped me gain a better understanding of nouns, verbs, conjunctions, prepositions, adverbs, adjectives, gerunds, definite articles, and indefinite articles. The unit started with an introduction to what is needed to form a sentence. Along with the general definitions the unit explained some general rules to watch for with with each part of speech. Adjectives can describe nouns, be comparative, or superlative. There are a variety of verb tenses and each verb tense has its own unique spelling. There are also transitive and intransitive verbs. Adverbs can be organized into several types such as manner, place, time,
degree, frequency, comment/ attitude, linking, viewpoint, adding/limiting. In this section we just scratch the surface of many different grammar rules. Later sections will dive deeper.

Went over all basic parts of English. Was a really good refresher on all the components that build our sentences. Dealt with some more nuanced terms like adverbs of frequency, gerunds, and modifiers (EG: The past and present terms for participles.). Felt like something akin to a junior high English refresher course. As far as I am concerned this unit is of the greatest importance. For both the teacher and the learner having a better knowledge of the function of each component of the speech is critical as it will facilitate reading, writing and comprehension. This unit is a first look at English grammar. It contains exposition on all the basic English parts of speech such as nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, gerunds and pronouns.
I know most of this stuff already but I had to consider a few parts of speech such as superlatives adjectives, and transitive verbs for a minute.

This unit reintroduced me to the grammatical break down of a simple sentence. This unit reintroduced me to the grammatical break down of a simple sentence and how it could be difficult explaining it to an ESL learner. Knowing the different levels of comprehension and experience with English will help me further explain the break down on their terms. This was a useful review of basic English grammar. I had previous knowledge of the content. However, some useful tips were included (ex. the rule for when to use '-er' and 'more' with comparative adjectives.) So this unit helped me to deal with some basic questions my students and I have about English grammar.

Before this unit I couldn?t say what a gerund was or the difference between prepositions and conjunctions. Knowing the English language is easy but knowing what words are what in a sentence was quite challenging to memorize.

The use of certain vague terms that exist in the English language became much more clear to me after the information in the parts of speech segment. I am generally good at grammar. But the practice that the unit provided helped me with grammar elements such as indefinite articles, countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Usage along with terminology is very specific and is extremely important in teaching grammar. This section greatly increased my knowledge and understanding of these important grammar points.

In the section the course was very useful in increasing my general knowledge of certain key grammar points. I am comfortable with most elements of grammar and can teach them without much difficultly. Some of the more complex grammar points covered in the unit such as definite articles, superlative adjectives, countable and uncountable nouns was extremely helpful. The entire parts of speech unit was very effective in teaching these points.

Wow! I learned so much in Unit 2 and I will definitely be reviewing it again as there is so much information on grammar. I have never heard of the term gerund
Before, but now I will never forget what it is. Grammar can be the most difficult part in the English language but watching the
video several times and reading the Unit over and over helped ease the confusion. I look forward to expanding my grammar knowledge in order to teach it to others.

This unit contains a lot of details about the parts of speech and how they are used to compose sentences. There are lists of irregular forms of words which need to be memorized because they don't follow the usual rules. It's more clear to me now how difficult it may be for students to study the english language instead of learning it through constant exposure.

The unit is clearly structured. The example sentences were also sufficient. I found it rahter practical that all of the content is in one unit, actually I wouldn't mind if there would be more about verbs and tenses, but this amount was also sufficient. The tasks on the task sheet showed how far I got through the unit, but was also convinient, not too much writing, but asking everything important.

This unit held a detailed list of the elements of English grammar and many of its rules and exceptions. It explained the most basic rules and the different types of nouns and verbs that can form a sentence. It also explained some of the common mistakes made with these rules and how to best overcome them. It gave good examples of activities to use with ones students to either simplify or reiterate these rules.

While they are rules that apply in many cases, this section reminds us that English can be a confusing language to new learners. With that in mind, it demonstrates the importance of the teacher being a model and of the need for students to practice in pairs or groups. Again, it comes back to need to provide positive feedback on their success lest their mistakes take on a larger than life stature.
