I now am able to identify the numerous roles a teacher assumes in class as well as how each one affects the students. For myself i have a better understanding of what is most important to a student and what keeps the student/students motivated and excited about learning English. The two
videos gave a very clear difference between what
works and what doesn't work. The videos showed me that one needs precise and clear pronunciation, a caring attitude, patience, and a friendly personality. These qualities make for a great learning environment, they give encouragement and motivation to students. Motivation brings about success. Unit 1 begins with a look at what makes a good teacher, making the statement, 'A (good) teacher really cares about his/her teaching, but cares even more about the learning of the students.' As the unit unfolds the key to this assertion is revealed. It deals firstly with the roles of the teacher. For me, this was a brilliantly useful discussion which set out clearly and concisely the ways in which a teacher should approach a class. It outlined nine roles (Manager and Controller, Organizer, Assessor, Prompter, Participant, Tutor, Resource and Facilitator, Model, and Observer and Monitor) which cover every aspect of teaching behavior, explaining the strengths of the
application, and their weaknesses or restrictions. Absorbing this section gave me a real sense of what is required of a good teacher, how many factors there are to consider, and instilled in me the confidence to recognize a class or student's needs and to handle them appropriately. The unit progresses to explore the learners. It outlines points for consideration (age, learning experience, motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behavior problems ,life experience, language level, and culture and first language. Each of these demonstrate that the teacher should not only be concerned with his/her teaching methods and skills but with the nature of each student. I now know that the more in tune a teacher is to the students' needs, the more effective they will be in applying the best approach to teaching them.

The part of becoming a teacher is not to only teach, but to learn about the students and the teacher themselves. I believe becoming a good teacher is to be accountable to the students rather than just showing off what the teacher would know. I had experiences as a camp counselor and a Sunday School teacher as part of being someone to teach and lead. These experiences helped me to know how I can become better to be a leader of the classroom or group. The title of the teacher should not be given just out of respect, but someone that he or she could confidently look up to when the time is needed. This session has greatly reflected upon my past experience of teaching and what I should look upon when I would be able to teach English in different countries. As I look through more in this unit, I even reflected not only what I know how to become a good teacher, but what points that are being a bad teacher as well. I know there were some times when I regretted of the choices I made when I was a teacher or counselor. But because of the bitter past, I would be able to learn my mistakes. I know I will never be a greatest teacher in the world but I do try to just become a teacher to do good and right way of teaching. The teacher should also learn about the students. There are some students that will do either good or bad in the class but this reason should not stop teachers to be more encouraging even if there are failures in the way. There is always a way to motivate students to learn better. Motivation comes from both the student and the teacher. As long there is hope and going on a path to show that given up is not an option, then surely there is a way to become better at something. This is my reflection upon this unit and I have learned more about how to become a better teacher by reminding of my past experiences and learning new factors of being a teacher.

This unit featured the key concepts of being a good teacher by addressing areas such as the teacher's personality (lively, kind) as well as the roles of a teacher (i.e.: manager, facilitator, organizer). One of the biggest things I learned from this is that it is important to care about teaching, but what comes first is the student and their learning. I think it would be impossible to be a good teacher without putting the students first. Another thing addressed in this unit was factors that make students good learners (i.e.: desire to learn, willingness to ask questions) as well as the factors that come into play such as age, culture and language levels which alter the ways in which students behave and influences their motivation to learn as well as connect to class material through their own life experiences. I think it is important for a teacher to consider students and their different levels of language as it helps to make sure that their teaching material is at the proper level and not too advanced or too repetitive.

This was great way to start off young teachers on the many different
Type of students that they might experience in class. What I learned from this lesson was that in class there will always be different types of students with different levels of motivation to learn. Unit 1 presents a brief overview of the characteristics of good teacher and the multiple roles they must assume. It also provides insight into different types of students, some of their qualities, and how they are classified. It has made me aware of distinctions that must be considered when assessing how to best meet the needs of a class. I learned much about the ways in which a teacher conducts him/herself in the classroom. I was made aware of cultural practices that impact a student's learning. I feel prepared to assess a student's a current level of English knowledge so I can prepare appropriate lessons.

The unit gave an introduction to the teaching elements starting with talking about the aspects of a good teacher and his/her different roles during the class ,explaining every one and when its the right time to use it in a brief way .Also it mentioned the aspects of a good class which is:interesting ,enjoyable and varied .The teacher has always to try to make his/her class rich with these 3 aspects .
Then it talked about the elements of a good learners and their age groups and each one characteristics .
The last chapter was about the learning levels starting with beginner and finishing with mastery .
most of the subject was new to me therefore I enjoyed it .

This unit taught me a few new things about the role of the teacher as motivator and facilitator; I was especially surprised by the description for the teacher in the role as a prompter. I also learned about the classifications of students in their language skills.

In this first unit, Teachers and Learners, I've learned valuable material on what makes a good teacher, how to motivate students of different ages, different degrees of knowledge in the englsih language and cultural differences that one should know when intructing students in different countries. Understanding the different techniques a teacher should use in the classroom to help aid the students in their quest to learn the English language was very beneficial. This first unit also helped me understand what tedencies students of different age groups will bring to the classroom and conversely how to be better equiped to handle those tendencies. In conclusion, this first unit, Teachers and Learners, helped lay a sound foundation in my mind for obviously the two most important components of any classroom, the teacher and student.

I think that this lesson is important because a good teacher is able to enter into roles and exit out of roles. Part of teaching is experimenting with different methods, and understanding what teaching methods should be used at different times. I plan on always experimenting with different teaching methods, and these basic teacher-archetypes help me understand different teaching methods that I should try, and the underlying theory behind those teaching methods.

Also, the detailed description of various categories of learners along with their prominent characteristics enlightens us the teachers, how to act appropriately by adapting to the needs of our learners.

Due to having experience teaching English I have mostly learned from Unit 1 the different language levels. Also I have learned about the Common
european Framework which will make evaluating what students need to know a much easier task. Also the information about how age effects student's abilities to learn was a wonderful section. Understanding that the Mid level students will need a greater boost to their motivation along with the understanding that High level students sometimes have a hard time seeing progress is a great tip to keep in mind if I teach these types of students.

In this unit I learnt that a good and positive attitude is very important for a good teaching and learning environment. I teacher needs to use a mix of teaching styles to keep the students interested and motivated. Different styles are also needed for different age groups and student abilities, including the level of learning that the students are at. As well as this a teacher may have to adjust to the cultural requirements of different countries they may teach in.

Prior to unit one I had no knowledge on the role or terminology of participant, tutor, facilitator, mode and monitor. This knowledge helps me categorize my active role during class. I clearly understand the value of CEF, again, was not familiar with this framework. The teacher should be the role model, and encourage questions from students who are unsure. The teacher needs to have motivate and demonstrate eagerness to be on time and appropriate on all levels of teaching. This unit is a good introduction to this course, I enjoyed the material.",

This opening unit may seem short in reading but it covers so much important information for becoming a good teacher.
The Roles of a Teacher section had such great sub-categories with good detail that I found it very enjoyable to learn about so many different roles. With only being in the first unit, I can already visualize what

But, of coarse, it depends on the level of each student.

The unit establishes what makes a good teacher and what makes a good learner. It then categorised learners according to age and ability. I learnt from this that a teacher has to be very sensitive and considerate with their students, because cultural factors, life experience and past learning experiences, as well as age, can all be inhibiting forces on a student's willingness to contribute in class. I am also now more familiar with different language levels and more aware of what to expect when teaching students of differnt ages and levels.

I would have to say that the content of this unit is very informative and helpful to me. The unit gave a proper introduction to many of the terms used in teaching, such as "organizer"" and ""prompter"". I was previously unaware of some of these terms and their descriptions. This unit also describes the characteristics of a good learner as well as a good teacher. I think this unit introduced me to teaching quite well. This was the first unit to complete, it was a introduction to how this course is set up. I find it very informative and moderate amount of information is given in respect to the unit which would avoid over-load of information. This unit briefly summarizes the different roles of both teachers and learners in an ideal classroom situation to make teaching and learning effective. Moreover, the unit also mentions some problems that can be encountered in the classroom by both teachers and learners and suggests the possible solutions to each. The different kinds of learners are identified and differentiated indicating the nature of each kind of learner and how best to handle each. The different cultural backgrounds of the learners are also brought to a teacher's attention and how this factor affect the teaching-learning situation. Also, the different levels of the learners in terms of language acquisition and usage are identified comparing it with, or in line with the Common
european Framework. Furthermore, the varied possible reasons why the learners study English are itemized. The aspect of identifying the different levels of learners has been very helpful for me as many times it is difficult knowing where to draw the line i.e. the intermediate and the advanced learners. A specification of what a good learner is and the various traits and motives of this specific role. The varying levels of language learners defined by their individual grasp of the language. I have learned that a number of issues can alter a learners perception of studying a new language and that it is vital that an instructor be able to aid in the remedy of these potential shortcomings. Furthermore, I learned that age and cultural background are large determining factors in terms of what sort of students I may be teaching. Older students are their of their own accord and thus more likely to remain attentive but also have a standard of how they believe an instructor should conduct their lessons.

There are certainly a handful of roles an English teacher must embrace and thus many ways and methods to teach the student. What is most important is to have lessons focused on the student. A good teacher must find out the student's interests, hobbies, some of their beliefs and try to get a basic idea of what the student's personality is like. All of this a good teacher should do without judging the student and being open to the possibility that the student may be completely different from what he first judged them to be. This is not an easy way to teach and will most likely be difficult with many students, but the important thing is that a teacher simply is aware that it is there goal to teach like this.

I learned many things in this unit. I learned about the 3 general categorizations of young English language learners: preschool, pre-puberty, and post-puberty. I learned that I will be teaching the pre-puberty age and I know that they are more likely to be open-minded. Adult learners are more nervous about making mistakes or looking silly. It's important for us to encourage them so they don't feel awkward or uncomfortable.

During this lesson, I learned there are many roles of a teacher, how to use these roles, and that it is extremely important to motivate adults or high level students. High level students feel they have hit a plateau and it will be difficult to see progress, as with intermediate levels. A good learner wants to be involved in the class, asking questions, accepting criticism and tries to use the criticism the next time they speak. There are 6 levels that can determine a students level or which class they can be clasified as. Many countries have their own way to assess students. A good teacher is a model to her students. The student will follow her pronunciation, grammar, and try to mimic her accent. She must have an understanding of their culture, so she isn't seen as disrespectful and it will help to know the traditions and
work that into the class lessons, but don't let it determine what she teaches.

This unit was a good introduction to the course. Wile perhaps something already familiar with, it was helpful to specifically outline the characteristics of effective teachers and students. Additionally, it was helpful to breakdown the different roles a teacher can play while teaching a class. From my perspective the levels where the most novel material and therefore the section I learned the most in. It was also iteresting to see the
european levels. As someone who has learned a foriegn langue, it was useful to learn the standardized terms to describe the various levels of profciency.

This unit broke down the teacher/student relationship. Each play an important role. A teacher can't just show up with a guidebook and teach a dry lesson. A teacher has a multifaceted role. The teacher is a manager and controller who must take an assertive lead with kindness and enthusiasm. A good leader sets the tone and morale. The student/students will reflect back your positivity and good energy. A teacher will organize activities, give instructions, and give feedback. Assessments will be fair and consistent will all students and be sensitive to each individuals feelings. It's important to give each student individual attention curtailed to their needs. A student should feel free to approach the teacher for extra guidance after class.

This unit covered the many roles a teacher can play in the classroom - observer, manager, participant, assessor, etc. - and how those roles affect the classroom as a whole and the individual students. Each role has its own place and time depending on the lesson. All roles can be overused. Conducting the class as a manager the entire time which most likely will result in losing the attention and motivation of the students, or participating in all class activities may result in losing track of the students and their progress. By moderating roles and their appropriate use, the classroom becomes a more productive place. This unit also covered another aspect of a productive classroom - the learner. A good learner will want to be in the class as well as have personal motivation for their decision to learn English. This can be more difficult with
young learners as they often have to be in class rather than deciding to be in class. Adults are more likely to have chosen to take the class and have a more clear idea of their motivation for taking an English class. However, adult learners can have a harder time absorbing information with the need to relate the language to their own native language.

young learners and adults. It also covered the different classifications of language levels. I was able to absorb some general principles about teaching, and I think it was valuable to learn the different levels that students can have. It's also very valuable to learn about the different roles teachers play, as that will be helpful in structuring a class. I enjoyed watching the
video as well as reading the chapter, I think that provided a different angle to the learner classifications, and that was helpful.

Although there may not be the perfect teacher, all those who inspire to teach should base their teaching on what is taught in this unit. A teacher should motivate, inspire, advise, organize and nurture their students. I found that to make a good teacher, one has to have balance in their lessons. One must be able to change their lesson style or lesson based upon the students and their students backgrounds. I think teachers must learn about their students just as much as their students learn from them.

I have went to both private lessons, group lessons where everyone was at a different levels and also a structured class where most of us were at the same level. I have had terrible teachers and great teachers. I am an adult learner with a college education. I was very frustrated at first thinking learning French would be translated from a teacher from English to French for example. This was a great begining for my motivation to be a teacher.

From unit one I have learned that the relationship between learners and teachers is very important. I found this unit helpful as I have gained a basic knowledge of the classroom involving teacher interaction, the types of students, and student motivation. I found the section on the level of English proficiency of students especially helpful as the program I am applying to has a wide range of education levels I may be teaching. The content of this unit is about the qualities, roles and responsibilities of both teachers and students. I have learnt that a good teacher should be kind and patient as well as he also needs to have a good subject knowledge and should have good rapport with the class. I have also learnt that the teacher has different roles in the class like: manager, organizer, prompter and others. On the other hand I discovered that successful students use to have willingness to listen to the language and also has a great desire to learn. I noticed that there are two different kinds of learners: the adults and the younger learners. One of the most significant differences between these two groups is that adults have a greater attention span than younger learners and as the result present fewer problems for the teacher regarding to behavior and discipline. In this unit I could also learn that the language levels are classified in 6 groups: beginners, elementary, low-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced. At the end of this unit I realized that the most common reasons to attending English classes are: for future career prospects and to study in an English speaking country.

It's very important that the teacher knows how to switch between these roles and how to carry them out. We can divide the group of learners into young learners and adults. Among the young learners we specify 3 groups: 2-7, 8-13, and 14-18 years old.It's important to define the difference between them. Young learners and adults have different motivation, learning and life experience, behaviour, nervousness and language awareness. Upon reading the unit, it has come to my understanding that teachers assume multiple responsibilities during the course of teaching a class of students. The qualities inherent in a Teacher such as sensitivity, perception of knowing when to use and execute the appropriate role during instruction should be understood and practiced at length

I have learned from this lesson a good teacher is many things. He/she really knows the material they are teaching very well. The teacher should project their love and enthusiasm for their profession. The teacher should interact with the students in a positive motivating tone whatever the discussion may be. It's the teacher who keeps the lessons interesting and Diverse. The teacher should build an enjoyable learning environment. A cultural and social exchange with the students. The teachers role can change many times.
I have learned that there are different types of learners. These learners may be very young and lack any exposure to a second language. You may be the only English they get to hear throughout the day. These young learner's are usually dependent on you to give them motivation, spark an interest. There are old learner's who have experience, who aren't reluctant. They may have future goals dependent on a second language. They can require different techniques of study.

I realized that teachers have many roles
Before I knew and it is very important to communicate teachers and students. " the content in this unit described the role of the teacher in the class also about the student and a characteristics of a good and a bad learner in class.
I've leant how to be able to be play my role in class so as to be a good motivate,a facilitator etc. Unit 1 has taught me the importance of distinguishing the different English levels within a classroom. I have found whilst teaching abroad that within a classroom I will have students ranging from Beginner to Advanced. What I have learnt form Unit1 is about teachers and learners. To be good teachers need to know qualities of teachers and roles in the class. Also, they need to understand learners well. Their language levels and age are different. Teachers should change preparation for the class depending on their differences. With this lesson I have leart the importance of a teacher when teaching. A teacher should be enthusiastic, dynamic and concerned about their students so that they get the best out of the lessons, making sure of course that the lesson is enjoyable, interesting and useful to keep them motivated to continue learning and attending the classes. The content of this unit consisted of definitions of qualities in both teachers and students, which facilitate a healthy teaching environment. I have learned to identify and assess the language level in a student, what to expect from different age groups, and the different strategies available to a teacher to help students learn.

In this Unit I examined the qualities, roles and responsibilities of both good teachers and good students.
There are many factors that make a good teacher. A good teacher should be enthusiastic, kind, patient and motivated. A caring teacher will help build and encourage motivation by making classes varied and interesting.
Also it was mentioned the role of the teacher. A teacher usually employs different roles: manager, organizer, assessor, prompter etc. A good teacher is able to switch between these roles appropriately.
There are a lot of factors which affect learners of English, but there are some general characteristics that successful students appear to posses. And the most important characteristic is desire to learn.
I have learnt roles of a good teacher (prompter and facilitator is new for me). When prompting we have to be careful not to take the initiative away from the student. And that it is very important to be fair and consistent with all students. Teacher should give equal attention to all students and avoids intruding too much. And the most important thing is that enthusiastic and caring teacher, who really loves teaching, is much more likely to have successful learners.

This unit was extremely helpful in explaining and honing the details of the different roles of a teacher, and offering examples of situations in which teachers have to be dynamic and shift between those roles. I also learned how each role interacts with students, and how students of varying levels and cultural backgrounds will need different things from me as their model, assessor, facilitator, etc. Though they are probably more for administrative purposes, it was also helpful to see the six learning levels laid out and explained in greater detail. This has helped me to better decide which level I'd most like to teach.

I thought this was a great unit because it provides a very brief yet thorough glimpse at what teaching could look like and what a teacher needs to be aware of and aim for in their own behavior. This unit focused on the parts of speech. Breaking down each part of a sentence and dissecting which word is used for what purpose and how it is related to all the other words. There are some basic rules that can be followed but there are also exceptions that need to be memorized. Understandably, there will be challenges as a teacher to convey these concepts to students who are learning this for the first time. But thankfully, this unit was designed well enough to give me, as a native English speaker, a stronger handle on the concepts. I know how to form a sentence intuitively, so breaking it down to it's individual parts wasn't necessary. This is why, I'm amazed I found this unit so interesting seeing as it was one of my weaker areas in the English subject. After studying this unit, I feel more confident now in my personal knowledge, as well as teaching this to others.

The unit contained basic grammatical points with explanation and some examples. As I learned grammar through reading and not by rote, much of it was putting names to what I know by 'feel'.
The section on nouns was relatively simple, but transitive and intransitive verbs are a new idea. Prepositions again were a little complicated, but as it was all reasonably logical I could grasp it after reading a few times.

Throughout this unit I have learnt a little bit more about the different parts of speech and its uses. I think it will be very helpful when giving an explanation to some of the students' most frequent questions. I've learnt the uses of prepositions of different types, as well as adverbs of time, place, manner, along with a classification of verbs (transitive and intransitive). In addition to this, I found the order of adjectives in a sentence very useful. Furthermore, I've learnt about the different types of pronouns and articles.

This has been an interesting trip through english grammar that has allowed me to establish a good foundation on which to build my teachig process. I wish you could have talked about more areas of speech but i undertand that there is much to say. my conclusion is: The better you understand how a language

Unit two was a very information heavy, but incredibly useful unit. I believe because we use propositions, pronouns, adverbs etc. everyday, it is easy to forget their purpose of use, and the unit was a terrific refresher on those basic grammatical purposes. It is also easy to understand the difficulty that other nationalities face when learning english, as the unit listed the "exceptions to the rule"" to some of our grammatical rules."

This lesson was an overview of the parts of speech, broken down word by word in given sentences. I learned a lot that I once knew, or was taught, but had forgotten. It also made me understand some parts of speech or concepts I struggled with earlier in life trying to learn a foreign language myself. I found it quite challenging, frankly.

Overview of Unit 2
Knowing grammar (and hopefully its logic) is a necessary part of being an English teacher. The subject, object and verb make up the most basic structure of a sentence. Then there are other parts of speech: the definite article, adjective, noun, verb, preposition, etc.
The basic parts of speech are described as:
1. A noun which is a person, place, thing, animal, state, or concept. There are different
Types of nouns- common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective. The plural form of the noun is formed by adding ?s or ?es to the end of the word, depending on its spelling. There are also irregular plurals, for example man, men, woman, women, etc.
Countable nouns can be counted with numbers, for example An/the egg, (one, two, three, four)eggs, etc?
Uncountable nouns cannot be counted. They don?t use a or an. They can?t be in the plural. Examples are: material, wheat, fabric. And some nouns can be both countable and uncountable-for example, chicken.
Sample sentences are: I don?t have MUCH cash-cash is uncountable, so we use much here to describe quantity. BUT, I have MANY coins is countable, because I can say I have 200 coins.
Adjectives describe nouns. The beach is quiet, lovely and serene.
It is a quiet, lovely, serene beach. (the dropped ?and? gives greater emphasis to adjectives used.)
The basic rule of adjective order is: size, age, color, material + noun: That is a big old white cloth laundry bag.
For comparative adjectives, we use the ending ?er after the adjective + than to compare two nouns.
Martha is smarter than Mary.
Certain words change their spelling, for example, tan becomes tanner, etc.
However, adjectives of more than two syllables do not add ?er. The form more _______ than _______ is used: The USA is more democratic than North Korea.
Superlative adjectives are used to show the maximum quality or quantity of two adjectives, for example:
The form is: the (adjective) +______est.
She is the tallest girl in her school, I am the youngest member of my family.
To form the superlative, adjectives with 3 syllables or more are preceded by the word most:
This is the most delicious cake I?ve ever eaten.
Some short adjectives change final ?y into an ?i and then add -est . Example: loopy, loopiest.
Others double the final consonant ?n,-t, or ?d when preceded by a short vowel: tan, tannest, fat, fattest, red, reddest.
There are some irregular comparatives and superlatives: good, better, best and bad, worse, worst.
There are several different types of articles: the definite and indefinite. Definite articles
Name something specific, indefinite articles name something in general.
This is a telephone book . The telephone book is purple. Telephone books are usually yellow.
For pronunciation, a is added to a singular noun beginning with a consonant or consonant SOUND-a ball, a ukulele (because YOOkele is a hard sound).
An is added to a singular noun beginning with a vowel-for example, an eel.
An indefinite quantity word, ?some? is used for plural general nouns, but this ISN?T AN ARTICLE, BUT A DETERMINING ADJECTIVE).
For example: Some elephants are pink.

The definite article the is used to show a noun (singular or plural) is particular, specific or unique:

United states), cities, towns, or states, streets, bays and lakes (EXCEPT-Groups of lakes, such as The Great Lakes), mountains (EXCEPT-Groups of mountains, such as The Pyrenees),continents, islands (EXCEPTIONS-Groups of islands, such as The Maldives or if the name of the island follows, such as The Isle of Man).
Do use the before:
Names of rivers, oceans, and seas. (The Yellow River, The
indian Ocean, The Baltic Sea)
Points on the globe (The Tropic of Capricorn, The North Pole)
Geographical areas (The South, The Great White North)
Deserts, forests, gulfs and peninsulas (The Arabian Desert, The Black Forest, The Gulf of Tonkin, The
Florida Peninsula)
The is also used with uncountable nouns to make an uncountable noun specific: The gas in my car is unleaded.
When referring to something (a noun)in a general sense,the is not used. This is called the zero article.
Absinthe was a popular drink in the 19th century.
Zero article is also used for general ideas about countable nouns, when the noun is always pluralized.
Chairs are useful.
Some common countable nouns are often treated as uncountable, and used without an article, taking a preposition instead:
to/at/in college, to/into/in/out of bed/prison/hospital, to/at/from
work, to/into/from town, by day, at night, by car/bus/train/plane/boat
Verbs-can refer to actions (?walk?, ?sit?) or states (?seem?, ?appear?)
A transitive verb is followed directly by an object: She plays the piano., They unearth artifacts.;these verbs must have an object).
An intransitive verb cannot be followed directly by an object- it stands alone. Does not do to anyone or anything-simply ?does?.
Examples: Go, arrive, skate, fall, depart, come, sleep, speak, promise, limp, cry (tears) (often related to time, place, frequency, etc.)
I go to school., We arrive at 6:00.
Example of a transitive verb: Brazil won the World Cup.
Example of an intransitive verb: Germany won.
The infinitive refers to the action of a verb as a whole it uses the base form of the verb + to ______
Some intransitive verbs followed by an infinitive to denote the consequence of an action:
He hopes to come back. (What does he hope?)
He promised to behave well (What did he promise?)
There are 4 principal verb forms-
-base form (cope, hop, steady)
-past simple (coped, hopped, steadied)
-past participle (coped, hopped, steadied)
-present participle (coping, hopping, steadying)
There are the irregular verbs, that must be memorized by the students:
Base form: (be/am/is/are),
Past simple: (was/were),
Past participle: (been),
Present participle: (being),
This is a list of irregular verbs that need to be put into the above forms depending on their usage:

Auxiliary verbs help form a structure by combining with present or past participles or infinitives of other verbs. The 3 auxiliary verbs are: do, have and be.

Adverbs-add information or meaning to the action, quality or state denoted by a verb. Adverbs of
degree can also modify an adjective or another adverb.

Frequency-once, twice, sometimes, always

The regular form is to add ?ly to the base form of the word, but if it ends in ?y, then -ily is added: happy, happily.
An adverb will normally be placed after the object of a transitive verb.
You left your desk quickly.
Adverbs are usually placed immediately after an intransitive verb.
They talked noisily.
However, adverbs of frequency are placed between the subject and the verb or between the auxiliary verb and the verb.
He often smokes during his break..
With multiple adverbs, the general rule is place-manner-time. I reached above my head slowly and soon found the suitcase handle.
A gerund is the ?ing form of the verb used as a subject or an object.
Playing badminton is fun. Playing is the subject.
We enjoy playing hockey. Playing is used as the object of the verb enjoy.
He?s excited about playing soccer. Playing is used as the object of the preposition about.
Some verbs, such as admit, consider, delay, remember, like, etc. are usually followed by a gerund form when another verb is used.
She considered borrowing the key.
Prepositions are sometimes followed by the gerund if an action is indicated.
Bill often stops over here after getting out of work.
Pronouns are words that are used instead of/in place of more precise nouns or noun phrases.
The types are:
Personal: I, me, you, he, him, she, her, we, it, us, they, them
As a subject: I, he, she, it, we, you, they
As an object: me, him, her, it, us, you, them
She plans everything. They love him.
You go fishing on Saturday. He feeds us.
Possessive: mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs, its. This coat is hers. It doesn?t take an article and isn?t followed by a noun.
Reflexive: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves
Relative: who, which, that, whose used to connect clauses in a sentence, used to introduce relative clauses.

The Second Unit elaborates on what makes a sentence and specifically what the roles are for each word in a sentence. As an English speaker this is a topic of which I have only a shallow understanding and it is nice to finally see and learn what each word in a sentence is and what its role in that sentence is. That being said, I can already see that this
Type of topic will require some memorization on my part as even though I just completed the section now I already don't remember what, for instance, the word "for"" is classed as. This is a section I will no doubt return to and reread several times. I do wish the task sheet at the end of the unit had some sort of answer sheet to it so that I could test myself (at least those questions with definite answers anyway)."

This unit describes the many parts of speech we face in our daily life when using the English language such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and so on. Each part of speech has certain rules and exceptions to follow that will assist teachers in helping their students to have a better understanding of some of the English grammatical concepts. The words in the English language can be divided into different categories called "Parts of Speech"" which denote the function a word has in a sentence. The most basic sentence must contain at least a subject and a verb i learned that i do not in fact remember any of the parts of speech. it actually makes me feel quite inadequate as an individual that has grown up with the english language. you have actually put me into a depression from which i doubt i will ever recover

This section is a great overview of the main rules and components of the English language. It is an excellent "refresher" This unit gave an overview of English grammar. It includes the parts of a sentence, such as the subject, verb, and object. Verbs can be transitive or intransitive, and countable or uncountable.
The different types of pronouns, adverbs and adjectives were also reviewed. The order of adjectives was also described. It was very important part of grammer for me , I have learnt alot from this unit. i can learn about basic things and rules of grammer from this unit.I have learnt all the Parts of Speech .It was really very useful and important for me.

Unit 2 deals with classifying parts of speech. The unit begins by explaining that the simplest form of structure is the basic sentence. A sentence has to contain at least a subject and verb but will often feature other parts of speech also. A sample sentence would be, 'The boy shook.' 'The boy' is the subject, the doer of the action, and 'shook' is the verb, the action. A sentence may also have an object, the person or thing to whom the action is being done. In the sentence, 'The boy shook the bag', 'the bag' is the object.
A sentence can involve many more parts of speech, each distinguished by the purpose and meaning it gives to a sentence. I will describe briefly the parts of speech outlined in this unit. The unit is divided into 8 parts. Part 1 deals with nouns.
A noun
Names people, animals, places, things, qualities and states. There are 8 subcategories of nouns. A common noun has no capital letter, such as, chair or dog. A proper noun has a capital letter such as the name of a person or country: Susan, Ireland. An abstract noun is something that we cannot touch but rather just experience, such as, beauty or intelligence. A collective noun is the name of a group as if it were one, such as, a flock or herd. Plurals are multiples, such as, cats or butterflies. Countable nouns can be preceded by a/an/the and can be used in the plural, for example, apple or car, and uncountable nouns are the opposite of countable nouns, and as their name suggests, cannot be counted, for example, music or rice.
Part 2 concerns adjectives. Adjectives describe nouns, for example, big, blue, beautiful. Comparatives compare two people or things, such as, taller, shorter. Superlatives draw a conclusion from a comparison, for example, tallest, shortest.
Section 3 explains articles. Articles are divided into two groups, definite (the) and indefinite (a/an). A/An refers to any member of a group and 'the' to a specific member of the group.
Section 4 covers verbs. Verbs convey actions or states, for example, run, feel. All verbs are transitive or intransitive. Transitive verbs are followed directly by an object, for example, 'I ate dinner' (eat), 'I cut my hair' (cut). Intransitive verbs cannot be followed directly by an object, such as, sleep, come. English verbs have four basic forms: base, past simple, past participle, and present participle, for example, hope, hoped, hoped and hoping, respectively. Auxiliary verbs help form an expression by combining with other verbs. The auxiliary verb doesn't carry the main meaning of the expression; it simply helps form the structure, for example, 'Paul is studying English' (is).
Part 5 describes adverbs. Adverbs generally add meaning to or modify verbs. There are 5 main types: manner (slowly), place (here), time (now),
degree (very), frequency (once).
Part 6 clarifies gerunds. A gerund is the -ing form of a verb as a noun, for example, 'Cooking is a delicious hobby'.
Part 7 explores pronouns. Pronouns are words that are used instead/in place of more precise nouns. They are divided into personal (I, you), possessive (
Mine, yours), reflexive (myself, yourself), and relative (who, which -used to connect clauses in a sentence).
Part 8 takes a look at prepositions and conjunctions. Prepositions show the relationship between a noun or pronoun, and some other word in the sentence. Prepositions are divided into time/
Date (on,at), movement (from/to), place/position (in/on). Conjunctions join words or groups of words in a sentence (and/but/or). They can join words of the same class, for example, 'She enjoys movies and documentaries', or clauses of sentences, 'He went to Korea because he wanted to teach English.'
I enjoyed studying this unit and getting to grips with the intricacies of the parts of speech. While I already knew a number of the grammar parts, the names and definitions of the multiple subcategories were largely unknown to me. It gave me a real appreciation of the volume of
work and effort needed by students to learn the English language. Seeing as the language comes naturally to me as a native speaker, it is easy to take for granted how complex a language system it is. I think it's important that an ESL teacher have a good knowledge of English grammar terms so that their authority on the language is credible to their students. It's respectful of the teacher to the student as well, to want to know the terms. The knowledge I've garnered from this unit has given me the confidence to approach grammar work in the classroom with gusto. I wish to express to my students that there are rules which have their practical explanations and can be understood easily, and irregularities and exceptions that have no rhyme or reason, but must just simply be learned. Grammar can be complex but with a knowledgeable teacher you understands its intricacies, it is certainly doable.

This unit explains the many parts of speech and how we go about creating and using sentences. It gives a clear overview on how basic sentences are structure and goes into detail about the various grammatical elements that help to make up these sentences. I have learnt three main points . First, English language has many parts of speech and they are nouns, verbs,adjectives,adverbs,gerunds,pronouns,prepositions and conjuctions. Second, I have learned avery good and simple way to teach the adjectives(comparatives and superlative) . Third, I have learned how to put many and different adverbs in the correct in a sentence. This unit covered parts of speech such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, verbs, infinitive, gerunds, articles and conjunctions. We learned how to pick apart a sentence and understand all the components grammatically.

The indefinite/definite articles, intransitive/transitive verbs, superlative/comparative; I learned that even within the basic grammar structures, I need to remember these types as well. It may seem there are alot to recognize, but when you look closely at each part of the sentence, it can be separated into different parts of speech. I also learned what a gerund is.

In this chapter I have reviewed all grammar points I am familiar with such as different types of the various parts of speech and when they are used. It is important to be able to distinguish between them and explain their usage. In my
teaching practice I have to deal with this material on a daily basis. Most of the different part of speeches, I already knew. This unit described the different parts of speech such as verbs, pronouns, gerund, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, each of which can be the subject of an interesting lessons for lower to intermediate levels. It points out that teachers should have a reasonable knowledge of grammar to maintain an acceptable level of credibility. This unit emphasizes more on the technical aspects of English grammar which are extremely crucial. This is due to the fact that even most English native speakers still get a lot of these rules wrong which may confuse students who are still new the the language. One critical example is the constant incorrect usage of "your"" and ""you're""." Understanding parts of speech is critical to teaching English. This unit provided a very easy breakdown of the English language. The way the material was presented makes it simplier for me to translate these grammar rules and use them with my students in the classroom.

Grammar involves the parts of speech in a sentence and explains nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions, and conjunctions. There are 5 basic types of nouns: common, proper, compound, abstract, and collective. Nouns can be pluralized, be irregular, countable, or non-countable. Adjectives describe nouns. We usually state adjectives according to size, age, colour, material + noun. Adjectives can be comparative or superlative in nature. Articles can be definite (the) or indefinite (a/an). Sometimes we use the Zero Article. Verbs basically describe actions. Verbs can be transitive (followed by an object) or intransitive (not followed by an object). We have verbs of time, place, and frequency. Some verbs are used in the Infinitive form (to). Verbs have the following forms: base, past simple, past participle, and present participle. There are three auxiliary verbs: be, have, and do. auxiliary verbs have the following forms: base, present, past simple, and past participle. Adverbs describe verbs. There are five types of adverbs: place, manner, time,
degree, and frequency. Gerunds are verbs that are being used like nouns. They can be the subject, verb, or object of a sentence. Pronouns replace more specific nouns. There are four types: personal, possessive, reflexive, and relative. Prepositions are used to the show the relationship of the words in a sentence. They indicate place, time, and movement. Conjunctions join words in a sentence into the same class or the join clauses of a sentence together.

This unit contained the many parts of speech used in the English language. The content that was covered contains the basic ideas of verbs, nouns, adjectives, pronouns, adverbs and many others. There was some content that i was unaware of, or at least had no idea what it was called such as gerunds. I feel that the chapter has not only reinforced my knowledge but also brought up terminology that i was unaware of. One thing that i was aware of and didn't care for was how all the rules were stated for each subject but, at the end were exceptions to just about every rule.

I learned that some parts of speech are very difficult to explain because there are no definite rules. For example the irregular forms of verbs or prepositions. Also, the usage of articles have many rules and exceptions. The best way to help students learn how to use those words and sentence structures is by encouraging practice and using English as much as they can. I figure, that's the only way to learn, by repetition in conversations.

This unit presents us with a detailed description of how sentences are formed in the English language. Individual sentences are dissected, individual words are named and their purpose in the sentence presented. For people with an advanced knowledge of the English language these things may seem natural and are given little thought. However, when you are teaching the students they won't have this adventage. You will need to be precise and clear when examining or building a sentence for the class, and thanks to this unit that will not be a problem
