Firstly, in this unit the teacher's role in the classroom was reviewed. It is important that he/she cares about their students' learning and has a good knowledge of the language (e.g. voacabulary, grammar, phonetics, common Student problems).
Secondly, the role of the students was reviewed: depending on their age and their cultural background their Motivation for learning, their attention span and their behaviour in the classroom can be different. What they should all have in common is the willingness to take risks and the acceptance of error correction. Life experience and L1 language awareness can also play a huge role with regard to their expectations when learning a second language.
Finally, the different language levels and their characteristics together with the motivations for learning a second language such as English were recapped.

In this unit, I learned what is a good teacher and what is a good learner. I will keep in mind that in order to monitor the class well, the teacher should not always participate in students' activities. Also, as a language teacher to non-native speakers, it is very hard not to correct students' mistakes all the time, but it is very important not to do that! This unit also clearly defined each language level. This is very useful because sometimes teachers need to divide the class into different groups according to their levels to do different activities.

This unit was primarily focused on the qualities that make good teachers and good learners, the differences between adult and
young learners, the stages of learning a student passes through, and defines what the student is capable of in each stage. Additionally, the unit also covers the challenges an instructor may face in teaching the various age groupings of students. Finally, the possible motivation behind the students desire to learn.
What I took from the lesson is what I should look for in myself to be a better teacher, what I will need to encourage in my future students, and the things that may determine which age group of students I would prefer to instruct. It also gave me additional insight into myself as a student of the
japanese language.

A good teacher has several positive teaching qualities including a patient and kind personality, the ability to develop a rapport with the class, sensitivity to the different cultures in a class and how that may affect learning perceptions and ability as well as a sound knowledge of subject matter. A love of teaching is very important, and although it is important to care about the teaching itself, a good teacher will care more about her learners.
A good learner is one who is motivated to learn a new language, is not afraid to ask questions, is not afraid to experiment with a new language and is able to accept constructive feedback from teachers. Learners of the English language might have several reasons for wanting to learn the language; these might include a love of languages hence the desire to learn a new language, the desire to communicate effectively with their peers, classmates or friends or to migrate to live in an English speaking country. Additionally, the fact that English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, is a distinct advantage for fluent English speakers, opening doors to a wide variety of careers in many English speaking countries across the world.
The age of a student will definitely affect their learning
Speed and ability. Very
young learners have little previous learning experience and are, therefore, more open to new teaching techniques and methods. This also allows them to absorb the language more instinctively through context, much as they have done with their native language. Young learners tend to have very short attention spans and lower motivation levels; therefore teachers of young learners have to be extra careful to make their lessons lively and age appropriate and might want to use more visual techniques including drawing, colouring and using pictures to communicate. Adult learners have usually taken the decision to learn English independently and are therefore highly motivated. They are a more mature audience and therefore, often easier to establish a relationship with and less prone to behavioural problems. However, many adult learners do have in-built perceptions of learning based on their previous learning experiences and these might, sometimes, affect their ability to learn. They also might have acquired habits that are difficult to break when learning a new language.
To conclude, there are many factors that contribute to the success of a student's learning journey including the student's attitude, the ability of the teacher not only to teach the subject matter but to encourage the student to learn and absorb it as well as the age of the student and his/her background.

The content of this module was clear and concise, allowing an introduction from a personal perspective (i.e. what should I do while teaching, should I be more or less involved during activities etc.). As such I realized that I was not bound by my previous assumptions concerning teaching methods, a burden I was relieved to be rid of.
Complementing the first half of the unit, the second half allowed a glimpse of what potential students may be like. What their possible motivations may be, but more importantly how to motivate them, while some may not be interested in travel some may wish to further their career internationally or even emigrate. As such, this part of the module allows the reader a clear advantage when contemplating student motivations, desires and the difficulties that they will face while learning English.
After the first half, I felt confident that I could fill all of the teaching roles, but it was the second half that bolstered my resolve and made me visualize potential scenarios with students and review how I may react in these imaginary scenarios.

This unit has helped me refresh and remember some basic English concepts that we take for granted, parts of speech that compose a sentence. The basic sentence structure is easy to remember, subject and noun of a sentence, but when having to identify each part of speech of a full sentence, is complicated. I believe that many non-native English speakers are probably more familiarized with the parts of speech because they have had to learn them as they learn English, but as native speakers, we have known them all our lives and take everything for granted.

There are many grammatical parts to any sentence. The key is figure out what part of speech each word falls under. Is it a noun? Is it an adjective, pronoun, verb, or adverb? Learning how to use each word correctly will help the student develop sentences that make sense. For example in Germany the verb goes at the end of a sentence. So a translation could be I will to the court house go. Now in English that wouldn't make sense we would say I will go to the court house. Although we are not expected to "be a walking grammar textbook"" it most certainly helps students understand sentence formulation if we know how to correctly form a sentence."
