In this unit, I learned about teachers and students. I learned about the qualities of a good teacher and the different roles of a teacher. I learned about the qualities of a good student, different levels of students, and different types of students. This unit made me think about the different ways that teachers and students interact. The majority of this chapter covered what the teachers role is in the classroom and the reasons behind these different roles. It also gave a general idea of when these roles would be used in the classroom. The second most useful section was on motivation and why students tend to study a language. There are many different aspects to teaching and learning. The teacher must be able to be flexible in her teaching methods, and understand which styles will most benefit the class at any given time or situation. Motivation, understanding your students, and the ability to positively engage the students are very important.

The most important aspect that I've learned is that flexibility is key. This Unit is very helpful. It made me realise being a good teacher is not an easy task. It requires both good characters and good skills. This unit described the different roles a teacher has and attributes a good teacher should have. In addition, this unit also described the different levels of learners there are and the factors that students have that may inhibit or promote learning. I learned that while younger students are more likely to be more open-minded in their learning experiences than their older counterparts, older students are often more motivated to learn. I also learned that teaching English to less proficient students provides easier to see results, but teaching is mainly visual. Teaching English to high proficiency students is more difficult because success can be difficult to measure. It is important for the teacher at this stage to be a big motivator to the students and encourage student driven learning.

During this unit we have read and learned about what qualities a good teacher should have as well as the different roles a teacher may have during classes, taking into consideration that many of them can be used in a single class depending on the activity that is being run. We have also had information about what is necessary to be a good learner and the aspects that may influence in students motivation while learning a second language. In this part, we saw the difference in the students's language level along with the Common european Framework and its six different denominations. Overall it was a good review of some topics I have already had contact with as well as a good insight in some others that were not very clear or were totally unknown to me. Knowing what is necessary to be a good teacher or learner is not always an easy task and this unit has helped me a great deal in this matter.

This section was very informative. As a native speaker, I often don't realize why certain grammatical points are correct or incorrect. By learning more in depth about parts of speech and how to distinguish when to use them, I will be better able to explain to my students. It is often difficult to explain to a non-native speaker the differences between definite and indefinite articles. It is also a common problem to want to use an article with countable nouns that are treated as uncountable. The concept of plurals has been particularly difficult for my students to grasp. I think this lesson was very informative.

They may sound simple to proficient users, but the truth is that being aware of simple rules and its exceptions can be a powerful tool for teachers to help clear their student's doubts.
