This unit was about the characteristics of both teachers and learners. I learned that there are very distinctive characteristics of both to be taken seriously. My awareness of different levels of proficiency was reintroduced to me in this unit. In this first unit I am encouraged to take my role seriously as a teacher. I am impressed by the fact that I can be enthusiastic, but if I am not listening or preparing, if I am not a good role model or a good resource to my students, then I am not being the best teacher I can be.

In this unit of study, I learned the quality of a good teacher as well as the quality of a good learner. The most important lesson I think that I should always remember as a teacher is that, I don't have to do all the talking in the class as in giving or controlling the whole lecture or activity. I think as a teacher I should also be kind and understanding to the need of the learner. I also have to be sensitive to the various cultural background of the learner.
I also learned that a good learners are those who participate in the class and ask for clarifications when the lessons are unclear.
I have also learned that there are different stages used to evaluate the learners progress in the level of English knowledge. There are the beginners,elementary, low/pre-intermediate, the intermediate, upper intermediate, and the advance learnes.

From this unit i have learned that the relationship between teachers and learners is a very important but also a very complex relationship. I have learned what it takes to be a good teacher and the different roles that a teacher can provide to learners. Also when and which role to use in different situations.
I have learned that a caring, enthusiastic and motivated teacher is usually the most successful and therefore have the most successful students but also a very good knowledge of the English language is very important.

What I have learned from this module:
I feel the module has really broadened my horizons to the teaching profession.
It is providing me with a frame of reference of what is coming in later modules, it focusses my attention, it structures my thinking and puts me at ease. I think this is an excellent introductory technique I can use with every lesson.
The teaching techniques are keys to different doors at different times, and must be used skilfully.
Even though some may have rugged exteriors, people are very sensitive in general. Every student wants to feel accepted and valuable. By behaving in a complimentary way and acknowledging students' positive aspects, learners start feeling safe and open up to learning more and more. When the correct climate has been created the learner will flourish. When students are being treated critically they become self-conscious and will react to the teacher according to their temperament. Negative criticism is a counter productive method. Nobody wants to pay money for a bad experiences.
Being a teacher is like growing a garden. The gardener has to take great care as not every plant is the same. Growing a beautiful garden requires passion, hard
work and planning.
The multi-faceted roles of a teacher was stimulating for me to realize,
and in my mind it took me back to learning experiences I encountered along my way, both good and bad. I thought of difficult situations some of my teachers and fellow students went through in the classroom.
As I studied the module I also began to think how I would motivate my students and put them at ease. Also how to make the education they will be receiving more effective and easy to grasp, again with reference to my personal educational experiences.

An excellent overview of the relationship between the teacher and the learner. As a prospective teacher, one must know WHO they are dealing with as not all motivations, life experiences, and behavior are the same, usually due the age of the learner. It was interesting how the desire and personality of the teacher plays a major role in learning coupled with the desire of the learner. It was interesting as well how the teacher has different roles at different times, and must be able to sense the best time to be in that role. The motivations to learn a language was very important for me to see as well. If I can heighten these motivations, it would have a greater improvement and enjoyment of learning for my students.

Most of this information follows my experience and expectations. The course reinforces the good nature of positive interaction. I am reminded to maintain self-esteem and remember that most of the people I will teach choose to learn. This course also puts structure to the stages of learning. I learned that learnt is a word and not an error. Unit 1 covered content related to qualities of teachers and learners. Specific topics included what makes a "good"" teacher I have learnt the ways of a good teacher and a good learner, the different role of the teacher, the factors that we have to consider from the learners of English and their language level, and the motivation why they want to learn the English language.

This unit is primarily divided into two topics: [1] the role of the teacher, and [2] types of students.
A teacher's exact role depends upon context at a given time. When presenting material, the teacher must be the center of attention, but as this requires focus from the students, it can become exhausting for them. A lesson should also feature time in which the teacher is encouraging, correcting, and assessing students while they
work on a task. From my experience, this stepping back is also a chance for the teacher to rest his or her voice.
Students may be classified or divided by both age and language ability. That is, students of different ages are going through different life stages and will therefore have different needs, in terms of learning. Language ability is also a factor, because as I have found, teaching is most effective when the students are of a similar language ability. In fact, a sharp contrast in ability between students in the same class is such a challenge, because the lesson must be limited enough for low-level students to follow, but also complex enough for high-level students to maintain interest.

I have been a teacher for over 10 years and find the information very accurate as to the role of the teacher and the learner. One item that is missing is the compassionate part of a teacher. Sometimes a student will act out or not really participate and there definately may be a reason for this student activity. I see in my school that many teachers don't show a compassion for the student and this may lead to a rift in teacher/student relationship.,

Content is good for a first unit. I have gained an understanding of a classroom situation and an awareness of the importance of making the lesson interesting. The main point I learned was that good teachers should be flexible in their roles. Having the same role all the time is not an effective way for students to learn from their instructor. If a teacher is unable to perform a variety of roles, it may cause learners to lose interest or motivation in class. Being able to motivate learners is an aspect that is considered by both teachers and students to be a characteristic of a good teacher. Additionally, it is important for a teacher to have a good rapport and interaction with the class. This is also highly dependent on how a teacher embraces a variety of roles. For example, if a teacher is heavily favoring the assessor role, students may become hesitant to experiment with the English language in fear of always being wrong.

From this unit, I have learnt that not all students and teaching scenarios are alike and that a good teacher must be able to adapt in order to fulfil the various roles needed to effectively deliver their lessons.
I have also learned that various factors such as the age of the learners, their effective English level and their motivation for learning English have an impact on their ability to be taught and it is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that the correct teaching methods and styles are used in order to provide the most effective and engaging learning experience for the students.

The content of this unit has been useful and enlightening. I have been
working as an EFL teacher for two years in an elementary school, however, I have never had a clear outline of what the role of the teacher is. This unit provided a clear outline of a teacher-student relationship and how the dynamics should be in a class. I also liked the emphasis placed on cultural learning styles. I teach in

Unit one introduced the various roles and qualities of dynamic teachers as well as the different types of students that these teachers may
work with. I learned that it is not enough to just possess the teaching skills outlined in this unit but that it is especially important to know when to use which skills. Furthermore, finding a balance between these roles is essential. It is important to encourage the students but also correct them, set an example for them, but also give them the opportunity to speak, lead them, but also make them self-motivated. Aside from the teacher's role, this unit also introduced the main categories of students that these teachers may encounter and their varying levels of English. I have been especially interested to learn about the different challenges that can be present for each learning group and level. For example, while students with advanced English skills have a good command of the language, this can can be difficult for them because it is harder for them to see improvement. It is especially important for teachers to encourage such students. Overall, it is important for teachers to treat all of thier students fairly and to create a balanced lesson that is at the appropriate level for the students involved.

I felt that the section on the role of the teacher and the role of the student were pretty basic, but of more value to someone who is totally new to teaching. Question 13 caused me to go back and review the
european classifications. When I first read the lesson, I took note of the A1, A2, B1? categories noting that there were 2 grades each to beginner, intermediate and advanced. I felt that the specific
Name for each class was somewhat arbitrary and irrelevant unless I wanted to
teach in europe. The quiz is user friendly since the five choices of answers correspond to five questions with each answer used once. It is interesting so far.

This unit worked as a fantastic review for someone who has been a student and never a teacher. It was nice going through and taking a look at the learning process through the eyes of what a good teacher should be rather than a student. A good teacher is one who can motivate, encourage, and be culturally sensitive to his or her students. A good learner will respond well to a good teacher. Depending on age, the teacher can use past knowledge and experience of students to his or her advantage. This unit outlined the necessary attributes required of both teachers and students in order for a successful learning experience to occur. I learned about the importance of knowing your audience (language levels and the Common
european Framework) and of having a varied repetoire of teaching roles to encourage/sustain/reward motivation and performance. I have learned that teaching is more of a dialogue rather than a monologue. A special bond, or relationship needs to be created and maintained in order to maximize the students chances to better learn the English language. It is also important to keep a professional distance, in order to maintain a
degree of control over the class. When becoming a teacher, you would have to be sensitive and be aware of your own behavior towards each students. There is a lot of responsibly on how to act and when to act. This lessons examines the roles, responsibilities and qualities of both the teacher and the learner.
Nine qualities of a teacher were discussed, of which fours qualities: kind and patient, love of teaching, lively and entertaining and able to motivate learners related to the teacher's personality. The remaining five qualities related to the relationship between the teacher and the students. This included the teacher:
1 having a good knowledge of the subject(s) they are teaching;
2 the ability to build a rapport with their students;
3 being able to create engaging, meaningful and purposeful lessons that encourages, supports and motivates the participation of all students;
4 being able to use appropriate
assessment and evaluation that shows the students? progress in learning (strengths and weaknesses), and whether the teacher?s lesson was effective or not;
5 being knowledgeable on how to respectfully correct students, so as to not offend them or discourage them from learning, affecting their motivation.
In moving away from ?teacher ?centred? lessons to ?student-centred? lessons, the teacher?s role can now be seen as: Manager or controller, Organizer, Assessor, Prompter, Participant, Tutor, Facilitator, Model, and Monitor. A good teacher will be able to use these nine different roles to effectively teach to their students? learning needs by knowing and understanding the value of each role and when and how to carry out all of the nine different roles.
In understanding a learner, there are a number of factors that a teacher must consider. They are the culture and the age of their students, along with the language level and the student?s motivation for learning.
Different cultures have different approaches to learning, different expectation of what constitutes a good teacher and good teaching instruction. Students from different linguistic groups will have specific challenges in learning English. A teacher needs to be aware of and understand these specific learning challenges while respecting the students? cultural expectations around learning when preparing their lessons if they wish to provide a successful learning experience for their students.
The English language learner is divided into adult learners and three age groupings of
young learners: the very young learner ages 3-7 years old, the pre-puberty learner, ages 8-12 years old, and the post-puberty learner, ages 13 years plus. Each group of learners have specific learning traits of motivations, experiences and behavioural differences that need to be considered when teaching students from each group.
There were six identified language levels of English learners in this lesson. They are:
1 Beginners- The ?starter? ? having no experience and the ?false starter?, having had some experience with English.
2 Elementary- having some knowledge of basic sentence structure (nouns and verbs) with limited vocabulary.
3 Low/pre-intermediate- able to discuss a range of topics, lacking fluency and depth of language, likely to make errors with basic language structures.
4 Intermediate- able to discuss a larger range of topics but still lacking in accuracy and fluency.
5 Upper intermediate- able to communicate on many topics, still lacking in accuracy.
6 Advanced ? having a very good knowledge of the English language wanting to fine tune subtle language items.
Students have different reasons for wanting to learn English, regardless, each student has a greater chance of success when they are motivated. Teachers must ensure that lessons are enjoyable, engaging, interesting and varied to promote and build motivation in their students.
The qualities of a good learner expressed in the lesson are:
A willingness to listen to the language.
A desire to take risks and experiment with the language.
Asking questions when unsure.
An ability to think about their own learning process and methods.
An understanding that one makes mistakes when learning English and that from these mistakes one learns. Able to make the error correction.
A desire to learn.

This introductory lesson helped me gain a better understanding of what is needed to be a good teacher and a good learner. In order to be a good teacher a person should have certain characteristics. Teachers need to be kind and patient because it takes time for learners to understand and a teacher will need patience while their students grasp and understand new grammar and vocabulary. They should be lively and entertaining that way their students will pay more attention to their lessons and have a better understanding of the material being taught. Teachers should be able to correct students without offending them that way even though the students made a mistake they will not be afraid to keep learning and understand that sometimes in order to learn, one will end up making mistakes. Good teachers should also give individual attention to students at some points in class to get a better understanding of how that student learns in order to help them grow. The lesson also went onto the certain roles that a teacher will have throughout the lesson and being a teacher in general. These include controlling the classroom, organizing lessons and activities, be accessible and giving feedback, prompting students when they are confused and helping them just enough that way the student is still in control, participating in the lessons as an equal, tutoring for individuals who may need more attention, being a resource in case students have questions, being a model to give examples on how native English sounds like, and lastly being an observer of the classroom. Other material learned in this lesson is what it takes to be a good learner. A learner must be interested in the subject. This will definitely help the learner have better success in understanding the material. The learner should be willing to ask questions and accept that sometimes they will make errors and have the willingness to be corrected. Good learners also have a good understanding of their own learning habits and what methods are suited towards their study habits. Other things discussed in this lesson were how there are different levels of understanding a language going from beginner, elementary, low-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced. Lastly, the lesson went over the different motivation of students and why they choose to learn another language. These ranged from being for their careers, traveling, or just being interested in the language and culture itself.

I have learned much from unit 1. I have learned some of the basics of what it means to be a teacher, as well as the criteria of being a good teacher. I have learned the several roles a teacher will possess during a lesson. When I was a student I remember which lessons worked best for me, and I was able to identify what role the teacher was using, as well as which ones were boring and made me lose interest. Unit 1 also taught me about the learners, or the students, and the different age ranges which correlate with their level of motivation. Finally, unit 1 taught me about the language levels, and from this I was able to even identify my own misconceptions about what I once believed the language levels to be.

The lists of the good teachers and good learners are very good and challenge for me. It is more thinking about the good attitude for me. In my opinion, the most important traits of a good teacher are the ability to be kind and patient while still being entertaining, the ability to gently correct mistakes without embarrassing students, and the ability to provide a living model of the language being taught. A good learner is someone who is interested in the language, is willing to listen, and is willing to participate and accept constructive criticism. Above all good teachers need to be able to adapt their roles to fit many different types of learners and language levels.

There are so many factors to take in consideration when teaching a class. Unit 1 explained and demonstrated (with help of the examples in the
video) all roles a teacher takes while teaching. Such exact description I personally found very useful. It also explained what a good learner is, gave an important information upon the language levels and description of language skills one has to posses to match each level. Another quite important and useful information was the table with the overview of motivation and behavior that

I learnt what it takes to be a good teacher, that it is a combination of personality traits as well as building a relationship with each student. A teacher must create balance between all the different roles that she is required to fill. She must build rapport with the students and be able to identify their weaknesses in order to assist them individually and to teach to the class as a whole. She must keep them interested and motivated. It is vital that she assess the learners level so as to give appropriate material, she must also take into consideration the age of the learners as well as their culture. Each class will change depending on the students, place of

Through this unit I have been reminded of the varied roles a teacher must fulfill, as well as some of the finer aspects of the delicate relationship between a teacher and his or her student. A teacher must be willing to change his or her teaching methods during a lesson in order to accommodate the many different learning styles he or she will face in the classroom. Furthermore, this unit presented a basic understanding of some of the more common motivations students may have for wishing to learn English. While the students I have will all be seeking to learn English, they will all be in different levels of their educational journey. Finally, this unit gave a brief overview of some of the difficulties associated with teaching the varying levels of language acquisition.

Overall from this unit i feel that i have gained a more sound understanding in the student teacher relationship, the role teachers have as well as the role learners have. From this knowledge i have further been able to understand how i fit into being a teacher and what i expectations are.
In regards to the student teacher relationship, after reading the unit i have come to understand it as a sharing of information. I believe that in order for the student to get as much as they can from the teacher they need to be willing to learn. Likewise for the teacher in the sense of the want to teach in order to help someone learn not just the act itself.
I have further learned about what makes a good teacher and learner as well as factors the contribute to the difficulties in both learning and teaching.

This unit was very informative, and refreshing. The examples, and the information were presented in a very clear and interesting format. As an Assistant Language Teacher in
japan, there are many ideas that I can easily relate to. The unit also refered to the characteristics of a good teacher, and a good learner. However, it also presents traits of a bad teacher, and a bad learner. As such, it allowed me to read deeply into the content, while measuring and assessing my personality and proficiency level against what was presented. Finally, there are several different stages that learners could be at, ranging from basic to advanced. Basic stages can be easier to assess, while it may be more difficult to distinguish the intermediate levels. As learners progress through the levels, they may need more encouragement to avoid feeling as though they are hitting a plateau.

It was interesting unit. I learned about the characteristics of good teacher based on his/her personality, knowledge of the subject and her relationship with the students. Moreover, this unit discussed the role of a good teacher such as organizer, manager, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model and observer. Thus, good teacher should know when to use the right role in the right situation. Also, unit one discussed the characteristics of a good learner. This includes desire to learn, acceptance of error, willingness to to ask question and desire to experiment with the language. Besides, the unit discussed the qualities of a successful learner based on age (young and adult learners), motivation, behavior, nervousness, learning and life experience and cultural differences. Furthermore, I learnt that there are five language levels which include beginners, elementary , per-intermediate, intermediate upper intermediate and advanced level. Hence, the teacher should know how to deal with students with different levels. For example, high level students are motivated and take responsibilities, but they feel they have reached a plateau and fail to see progress. Mid-level students usually are motivated, and they discuss wide range of topics. On the other hand, lower levels they have difficulty to communicate English and are indiscipline. Finally, the unit showed the reasons that make students to be motivated as career prospects, travel purposes, improve grades at school and live in english speaking country. In conclusion, I believe that the teacher should be motivated, caring, controller, organizer and good role model to explain the lesson in a clear and concise manner.

In Unit 1 I felt I learned a lot about the different roles a teacher should, and shouldn't play in the classroom. For example, I found it very interesting that there is a difference between Controlling a classroom vs. Monitoring a classroom. I took note that there are times that as a teacher you should be authoritative and times you need to step back from the students and allow them to figure out activities themselves to get a better understanding how to effectively help. I felt it was also necessary to learn the various Language levels and the breakdowns of each. As the framework between levels can vary, I found it useful to go over the basic definition of each level and what is the general expectation.

This unit was a good introduction to the idea of teaching English to speakers of other languages. I found the descriptions of a teacher's various roles helpful for self-evaluation. It was also helpful to know the differing motivations of different students, as well as different levels of students, in order to more effectively be able to discern how and why each student wants to learn.

This was a great introduction into learning how to be a good teacher and what makes good learners. I learned the many different roles a teacher can play in the classroom and the importance of being a good model for the students. I also gained a good understanding of what it might be like to teach adults as opposed to younger learners. As with most things in life, I feel it starts with motivation. If a teacher is truly motivated by the idea of the students learning the material, all of the other qualities can fall in place. The same can be said about the student.

From this lesson I learned how to develop and apply a range of different teaching styles. It would be useful to use several different roles?prompter, facilitator, manager, etc. ? in one lesson period, or over a series of lessons, to allow the students to apply themselves in different ways?by imitating the langauge of the teacher, or inventing their own sentences, for instance. Using several different roles in a class caters to different styles of learning. Some students may only want to practice their own speaking, while others may want greater dependence on the teacher to explain new words and expressions. Because there are different types of learners in each class, and in order to keep class activities varied and interesting, it is wise to deploy different teaching roles to focus on different aspects of the language learning process.

Unit 1 covers an array of information from both the prospective of the teacher and student. The lesson begins by highlighting exemplary characteristics of a teacher from traits such as kindness and patience to positive habits such as equally involving students in lessons as well as correcting students in a manner so as not to negatively affect their motivation or emotions. The lesson progresses showcasing the roles of a successful teacher these include manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model, and observer monitor. Following this the lesson explains the importance of which role to play and when as to switch seamlessly between a dominant and withdrawn presence within the classroom. The lesson then shifts gears to describing characteristics of a successful student when learning a new language these include a willingness to listen, a desire to experiment, a willingness to ask questions, an ability to utilize their own learning process, an acceptance of correction, and a desire to learn. From the perspective of the student, age is one of the major defining factors in their approach to learning a new language. Older students for example have much more experience in the classroom and thus may not be as open to new learning styles as younger students however they are often more motivated as they participating in the class of their own accord as opposed to at times younger students. Adults are often more nervous than their younger counterparts and can have a hard time matching their new language to their native language while
children can absorb a language through context. With a longer attention span adults are less prone to behavior problems and require less discipline than young students and also bring a breadth of life experience to the classroom which allows for more interesting discussions and a more easily built rapport with the teacher. The lesson then shifts to the levels of learning a language. The first level beginner has little to no knowledge of a language. Following beginner is elementary in which the student can form sentences and communicate simple topics. Pre Intermediate and Intermediate students have a larger vocabulary and can discuss a wider variety of topics but can lack fluency and structure. Upper intermediate can communicate on almost all topics but lack accuracy while advanced, the final group, has very good knowledge and can begin to focus on the subtleties of the language. The common
european framework coincides for the most part with these levels through the use of the stages, Breakthrough A1, Waystage A2, Threshold B1, Vantage B2, Effective Operational Proficiency C1, and Mastery C2. After the summarization of the levels the lesson explores the motivations for a student to learn English. The main motivations are listed as for future career prospects, traveling purposes, to improve grades at school, to study or live in an English speaking country, to communicate with friends, colleagues, or out of interest in the language itself.

I have learned about what is a good teacher and a learner. It is essential to distinguish good teachers and learners in order that as a teacher, you can improve yourself and at the same time improve your students' learning methods. I have also acquired knowledge on various roles of a teacher and it has taught me how to manage my class.
Before starting to study this course, I already have experienced teaching different learners in
vietnam so I can completely relate to the lesson about the Categories of
young learners and the differences between young and adult learners. It has become clear to me and I wish I had learned them before so that I would know and be ready to handle different age level and language level of learners. When I was teaching in a language center in Vietnam, I taught different levels of learners. Learning about the different levels has made me aware of the different approaches in teaching that I would implement in my class. The first unit is very helpful to me. I am looking forward in learning more from this course.

While taking this lesson, I remembered how many irregularities exist in the English language. There are so many words and parts of speech that do not follow the conventional rules. The irregular words will be the most difficult to teach.

During this unit I really got an in depth review of all of the grammar concepts I have learned in the past from school. This time, however, I learned a couple new things, such as transitive and intransitive verbs and their usage, transitive being a verb that can be followed directly by an object, and intransitive being unable to do such. I also learned the proper order of multiple adjectives used for a noun. In addition to all this I got multiple lists of different parts of speech, mainly in the form of charts, which I know will come in handy later on down the road while teaching.

The hardest part would be teaching the many types of adverbs, since they modify not only verbs but can also modify adjectives and even other adverbs. It's fascinating how I just let my grammar flow without actually realizing I'm using so many complex verb forms. Now I have more sympathy for my future students because I realize that it will not come naturally for them, and I will have to be patient and understanding.

I appreciated the review of the parts of speech. It has been a long time since I have thought about why I use words the way I do and in the order I arrange them. This unit covered all the parts of basic grammar. Basically, it talked about all the parts of language that native speakers usually never bother to think much about from day to day. However, in an ESL setting it is important for people to be familiar with these things because students who are learning a second language will use these various terms to break down, dissect and understand language.
In this unit I learned about gerunds, infinitives, verb types, adverbs, etc. The nouns of course were pretty easy. Most people know about that stuff, but infinitives and gerunds took just a little more explaining, and all the various detailed forms of verbs took some more explaining too. I feel like I've definitely learned some helpful stuff in this lesson and was able to get info which I did not understand very well

After studying unit 2, I learnt more about the use of nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. I was surprised to my lack of knowledge in English grammar. I learnt that nouns starting with a capital letter were Proper noun. I learnt that ?advice? is one of the uncountable nouns. I can now distinguish the difference between comparative adjectives and superlative adjectives. It is still confusing but I understand when to use the definitive article. I feel that I need to study unit 2 more, in order to teach students about the English grammar.

In this unit,parts of speech was broken down into eights parts: nouns, adjectives,articles,verbs,adverbs, gerunds, pronouns,conjuctions and prepositions. In each part it explained the usage, main types and sub categories of the specific subject. I have learned so many useful things from this unit I do not know where to begin.This unit also refreshed my understanding of the different parts and really helped clarify alot of things that I had forgotten over the years. I believe that sentence structure is really important and having a true understanding of each part of speech will help the learning process go smoothly for both me and my students. near I learned about the different parts of speech including nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, articles, prepositions, adverbs and conjunctions. I learned the difference between possessive pronouns and possessive adjectives. I learned that auxiliary verbs is not the main verb that carries the meaning but rather it helps the main verb. It was far better than I learned in school because I had to think about it and resolve it myself. In doing that I have a much greater understanding of my own language and I know I can help others.

There was a lot of things that i learned and was refreshed on as grammar is something that we stop learning after grade school. I believe that this is an important chapter, as it explains the foundation of the English language. I have learned how intricate the English grammar system is! It was strange at the beginning to break down and pick apart the different parts of speech. It was fascinating to realize the complexities of teaching the English language. It is easy to speak English without thinking much about grammar but when one analyzes it, it is easy to see the complexities. In this unit I have learned a lot about grammar that I have forgotten. This includes nouns(the different types), adjectives (comparatives and superlatives), the 2 very important articles (the, a and an), verbs (transitive and intransitive), infinitives, auxiliary verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. I will definitely have to review the material a few more times as there is a lot to absorb. Overall, this was a very informative unit and it will serve me well in my teachings.

Despite being a little challenging I learned that some parts of speech are very difficult to explain because there are no definite rules. For example the irregular forms of verbs or prepositions. Also, the usage of articles have many rules and exceptions. This unit was rather interesting! I learnt the break down of my everyday speech in grammatical terms. Basically grammar is all about distinguishing a pattern in the English language but there is not always a set pattern as some words might differ.

The unit was crucial and very rich with information ,it talked about the sentence structure in English and its elements explaining them one by one, how words come in order in most cases and giving examples .

There are many rules and exceptions within the English language's parts of speech. It is easy to imagine the difficulty a non-English speaker would experience when introduced to these concepts. Even as a native English speaker it can be difficult to keep everything in order. This unit was a very good review of the parts of speech for me and I imagine for others as well. Applying what I have learned in this unit to my future classes should enable my lessons to be better-rounded.

From this unit I realized the difficulties in English grammar. Things I say and use easily are actually complicated. For example I use countable and non countable nouns, but I didn't know the

In Unit 2 I learned the essential knowledge regarding parts of speech in the English Language and the importance of understanding a variety of words and how and why they are used to make a sentence, such as; an adjective describes a noun, e.g. Beautiful (adjective) House (noun) the word House is the noun (n) as it is the place. I also learned a verb is a word that describes an action, such as; hear, become. To incorporate the three components into a sentence I could write; I wish I was rich, so I could afford to buy a beautiful house. I also learned the meaning of pronouns, adverbs, definite & indefinite articles, gerunds and various other parts of speech necessary to truly understand the English language.

I feel that this unit has really helped me improve my grasp of English grammar. Specifically I've learnt how to, break a sentence down into its component parts and, recognise all the different parts of speech within it. I had some prior knowledge of grammar and knew the basic definitions of all the categories but feel that I now possess a deeper understanding of them. In this unit, I learned how to identify the different part of speech and how to use them in a sentence. I learned how to analyzed the word in a sentence and identify on which category they belong. Knowing the structure of a language or part of speech is very important in understanding how words can and should be joined together to make a sentences that is grammatically correct and easy to read.

In my country's education system, English has always been a first language. But as we use the language throughout the years, we may sometimes still make grammatical mistakes in our written sentences. This unit serves as a good revision for parts of speech. In fact, I had long forgotten that "a Unit-2 is an overview of sentence structure and defines the different parts of speech. Every sentence needs at least a subject and a verb, but usually requires more. From definite articles to gerunds, this unit describes where and when to use the appropriate part of speech. This unit helped me remember what truly makes a sentence. This unit was very helpful to me. After completing this unit i feel more confident about my grammatical skills. I knew how a sentence should look but not why its written that way. Learning the parts of speech was very helpful for me and i cannot wait to apply what i have learned into real situations.

Unit2 gave me an opportunity to enhance my understanding in English
grammar and learnt a clear way to explain the usage of different parts of speech to students. Also, it was great to learn therules in comparative and superlative adjectives. By studying this unit, I gained confidence to teach English grammar to students This unit was fantastic! It provided a wonderful overview of the different parts of speech.
Before starting this unit, I felt that I had a strong understanding of the part of speech. Now, having completed it, I have a new understanding of the different forms of verbs. I will use this new knowledge to improve my current Grammar classes. This unit clarifies the function of words and the role they play in a sentence. It allows us to explain how to place the words to English learners as their position comes natural to native speakers. It also briefly explains how to make different tenses of verbs and the auxiliary verbs as well as the articles and their function.

In this unit I learned many parts of speech. Many of the things I remember from school, but somethings I had completely forgotten. Nouns I remembered but only person, place or thing. I had forgotten about things like collective and abstract. Adverbs I never had broken down into different categories
Before like manner, place, time,
degree and frequency. That was very helpful. Last gerund I never remember even hearing about maybe my teacher just never said the
Name or used a different word, but I knew what it was once I heard The explanation. The course was a good refresher for parts of speech.

Part of Speech in its definition (grammar) is a linguistic category of words sharing syntactic or morphological behaviour and semantic properties, such as noun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, pronoun, infinitive, gerund, article and conjunction were practically being discussed in this unit. It is dealing on the study of the internal structure of words and the use of words in the construction of phrases and sentences. It is enriching myself as a student and providing me the knowledge of the basic rules or principles for speaking and writing the particular english language as a teacher. For me, this unit is trying to open up the range or limit of my knowledge, experience and interest in teaching the english language. Its content is giving me an opportunity to review, refresh the knowledge i already learned

I have learnt that there are eight parts of speech, which could be used in a structure of a sentence. Namely: Articles, Adjectives, Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adverbs, Prepositions and Conjunctions. When words from any of these parts are put in the correct order we form sentences. Each of the eight parts serves a particular purpose in order to convey understanding in what is being said in English. These eight parts of speech are vital in analyzing any sentence to bring out its true meaning.

Every word is, by definition, a part of speech. As students increase their proficiency and learn the principles behind sentence construction, teachers must be able to explain the differences between these parts of speech and the varying ways they are used. Key differences include transitive vs. intransitive verbs, the differences between personal/possessive/reflexive/relative pronouns, definite vs. indefinite articles, countable and uncountable nouns, types of prepositions (movement vs. place and time,) the five types of adverbs, and comparative adjectives, among others. I found this unit very helpful because I have not specifically studied this content for some time, and now I feel more confident to instruct this material in future lessons.
