This unit talked about the learning process in a general sense. It mentioned things about what a teacher should be expected to do, what it takes to be an effective learner, different levels of ability, motivation, and the different kinds of learners based on age range. I feel that most of the information was common knowledge, but I did learn about levels, which, beforehand, I did not have a clear definition of. I feel that this will help me prepare lessons by clearly understanding each student's ability. However, the rest of the unit was material that I had studied previously in my teaching credential classes that I took in college. I feel that I have a slight advantage in that regards. However, I will keep an open mind and learn as much as I can.

A good teacher should be able to decide which role is necessary for each classroom situation and be ready to adapt. Students also play their role in the classroom. A good student includes someone who actively listens and is ready to ask questions when unsure, to just name a few. Being a good teacher also means realizing that each student is unique and has their own level of English ability. By assessing the students' cultural environment and abilities ( from elementary, beginner, low intermediate, intermediate, upper intermediate, and advanced) we have a better idea of how to plan lessons and, consequently, students will be more engaged.

This was a good introduction unit. Knowing what Type of teacher you may be and how to become a better teacher is important for maximum learning. I know that just being a manager/controller isn't the only way to teach. I have learned that in order to be a successful teacher I must be able to find the balance of teacher centered activities and student centered activities. once I find the balance and adapt to the age group, speaking level, and culture I can start to become a successful teacher. Very straight-forward and mostly concerned with definitions. As a unit, I didn't feel that there was very much instruction, although I do understand that this is merely the first of twenty. Unit 1 has been a lot of simply memorising terms.

I feel the good qualities of a teacher are extremely important, for various reasons. The first of which is the student will always be receptive to the warmth, attitude, and willingness to teach. In doing so I think that directly effects the motivation of the student, as well as the overall effectiveness of the lesson. The different teaching styles applied from organizer, assessor, and prompter is crucial. The biggest of which in my opinion is the fact it maintains the student interested by changing the manner in which one approaches the lesson. By not simply repeating the same style the student can accel at different forms of learning. Knowing the level of the students English as well as there motivation is the most important of the lesson in my mind. Without knowing and being able to indentify the level of the student a teacher wouldn't even know where to start. The motivation of a student is important so a teacher can make sure the student never loses that motivation. In doing so the student will learn at much faster rate, and it will be much more enjoyable for both teacher and student.

What I learned in this Unit are some fairly good tips for being a good and efficient teacher. I also learned what a good student and learn should be like, and what kind of qualities they possess. I think I will be better prepared because of this Unit. Thank you very much. In the first unit of this the 120 hour course I have learn. The Type of teacher and the different use for it, The one I find the more interesting is the tutor. Also in this unit there was the different kind of learners and what make them good. I think I will enjoy teaching to the intermediate level. The relationship between teachers and learners is essential for a good classroom atmosphere. Learning happens when the dynamic between teachers and learners is interesting and varied. Teachers have many roles in the classroom, and learning how to move between the different roles and learning when each role is appropriate is a skill that needs to be studied and developed.

Perhaps it wasn't their choice, and they may not be motivated? Overall there are many more types of students than just the conventional "want to learn"" students."

This unit established what made up a good teacher and a good student. It taught me the many different roles a teacher would need to take on in a classroom, such as needing to be a model of the language or depending on the lesson, just an observer. I also learned what to expect from different students of different ages and the student's level of language. Two different students may both only be beginners, but because one may be 11 and the other 32 each individual's motivation for learning the language will be drastically different, as will their behavior and the range of topics they will be able to comprehend. Most of all I learned that my student needs to be encouraged and motivated to continue to take risks and experiment with the language. To take such risks will allow the student to continue to become better and more proficient in the English language or any language.

A good teacher must be kind, patient, able to motivate learners as well as care about the teaching and learning of his or her students at any language level. A good learner must also be motivated, willing to learn, ask questions and accept error and correction. Students may be motivated to learn English for travel purposes, work opportunities or communication however, a good teacher will motivate the student to learn for self-improvement and other personal goals. Learning about the different types of ages for the young learners I thought was refreshing. Usually a toddler about the age of two is starting to form short sentences and putting words in order. Originally I was expecting it to be age zero to seven but really you don't start speaking your L1 language yet. Also The Common european Framework levels of language learning where very insightful.

In this unit I learned about the different roles a teacher must play in the classroom. A teach has to balance these roles effectively to ensure that each student fully absorb what is being taught. This means that classroom time must be managed effectively so that students are given time to hear the lesson in lecture form, work in groups or partners, and work on their own. In this unit I also learned what drives students to learn English and what characteristics make a motivated student. The lesson also spoke about how diverse students may be and how that can affect the Type of classroom experience they have. With this knowledge, teachers can cater the lessons to different students.

In this unit, I have learnt the many ways a teacher can facilitate a lesson, from assigning activities within groups to class wide discussions. This use has helped me understand various motivations for students to learn. I feel that this unit is a good base for the work that will be completed in the upcoming units. This unit provides an overview of the characteristics for good teachers and learners, outlines different teaching roles and their benefits, and describes the student classification hierarchy. While a number of these lessons feel like common sense, the themes of patience, enthusiasm, and an ability to adapt to different surroundings are always important to emphasize. I have gotten a good perspective on teaching itself. On how different circumstances, for example age, motivation and cultural background, require different ways of doing things. The qualities of a good learner were obvious to me, so what interests me is how a good teacher generally has those good learners. A good teacher inspires and motivates learning.

Age is an important factor to take into consideration since there are different characteristics on each stage that differ from one to another. On the one hand, we have adults that usually choose to learn a language. On the other hand, we have young learners that usually study a L2 not precisely because of their own choice. Moreover, there are different reasons that motivate students to learn English that vary from travel reasons to job prospects.

I feel this unit has made it much more apparent when and why to use basic grammar. It clears up certain difficulties between more advanced grammatical issues using very simple explanations. I feel this is a very useful unit, and I believe it will help idenify the English language in everyday use much more. This was a good review over simple everyday grammar. It was really helpful and helped me remember the terms. Now when students ask me questions about this, I can give them a more confident response. I really appreciate that this course is actually helping me. I learned all of this in elementary school, then in college, and now once again. Native english speakers use these parts of speech everyday but when you try to explain them they can be difficult. Im also begining to realize how the English language is as comlicated as it is for a second language.

In this unit, I learned the parts of speech I have been using and yet actually never fully aware of. This lesson helps understand the components of a sentence by dissecting it. Through this lesson I now have a better understanding of recognizing and classifying the different parts in a sentence. When you want to say something, you make a sentence. Sentences consist of different words. In English each word has its special place in a sentence. It's vitally important to know where you must put what word. Also, knowing parts of speech can help you to express your emotions and attitude. This unit gave a good overview of the main parts of speech in English, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. The part I found most interesting was the section about adverbs that express comment and attitude, viewpoint and so forth. It was a clear reminder of things I actually know quite well.

Most, which I was not aware of have a different purpose in a sentence and also can be used in multiple forms. In this unit I have revised the parts of speech. The brief overview provided in the unit is concise and clear. I liked the way the authors exemplified the usage of the parts of speech, especially verbs and prepositions.I will definitely use it in my teaching practice.

This unit was an in-depth repeat of what I learned in grammar class growing up. Most of the sections were common things that as a native English speaker we take for granted. It opened my eyes to just how difficult the English language is to learn with all of the exceptions to each rule and all of the different types of rules. I took some notes and saved this section to my computer to refer to later on because it is a foundation to everything related to English grammar. It is very important to be able to grasp this lesson as a student to further excel and add on to knowledge of the English language.

To more complex topics, such as superlatives, auxiliary verbs, gerunds, prepositions, conjunctions, etc. Being able identify some basic grammar helps your credibility with students and should help keep them motivated.

This section was a great over view and refresher of grammer rules for me. There were definitely things I did not know even being a native speaker. It is one to say something and know it sounds right but it is another to explain why. I learned the correct terms and that a noun is just not a noun but can be countable and uncountable.
