First of all, I would like to stand out the fact that to be a teacher should be something that you really LOVE doing. This is because, to do something well you have to really like it. This unit captured the very essence of teachers and learners not only in foreign settings but all classroom settings, reminding me to be ore mindful when approaching students of differing levels, ages and cultural backgrounds. I definitely took more of a controller manager position when teaching int he class, however it was effective because my students were all very intent on learning and hearing what I have to say. However, when I teach middle school students, I will need to engage them in more activities and prompt them to give better input and answers.

In this unit, I learned a lot about what constitutes a good teacher and a good learner. There are many qualities that a teacher should possess in order to teach English successfully. These qualities include patience, enthusiasm, liveliness, and most importantly, the teacher must possess a thorough understanding of the material that they are teaching. In regard to the students, there are many qualities that define a good student. For example, the students' eagerness to learn, willingness to ask questions, and whether or not the student can accept corrections/constructive criticism. In this unit I also learned that there are two different types of learners: adults and young learners. Adults seem to have a greater attention span and greater motivation to learn the language than the younger learners. The level of difficultly of teaching young learners is dependent upon the three different age groups: very young learners (7 and under), pre-puberty learner (8-12), and post-puberty/early teen learners.

This unit is an overview to the parts of speech and explains basic sentence structure. As a native English speaker, this is repetition of skills I learned in elementary school. However, as we grow up and become fluent in our language we are able to make complete sentences with proper structure without thinking about it. What I took away from this unit was the ability to analyse a sentence and pick out all the components and be able to explain their purpose in the sentence.

This unit reviewed the basic parts of speech in the English language. From the basics (the difference between adjectives and adverbs) to the more subtle differences (transitive and intransitive verbs), the unit covered a variety of different grammatical topics. Although I had learned many of these concepts early in my academic career, I was surprised to find that I second-guessed myself on many of the seemingly simple questions. In my opinion, the fact that I had to think about something that should have been easy for a native speaker demonstrated how hard it would be for English-learners to remember these rules.
