The unit was much more difficult than I had expected however it was very useful for several reasons. The unit focused on the dynamics that can occur in a classroom setting between teacher and student. I particularly liked the list of what a god teacher should do. I concur with the entire list of what a good teacher should do. I will be proactive in trying to achieve those characteristics. I especially believe that a good teacher should be able to correct students without hurting their feelings. We all improve by learning from our mistakes and if a teacher is able to help a student in this regard I think that is a good thing. This section also taught me about the various roles of a teacher and I think it is important for all teachers to be able to understand the dynamics of their classroom and apply themselves accordingly. The unit also focused heavily on the responsibility of students as learning is not a one way street. Therefore the teacher and student are responsible for making the learning experience good. Students therefore should also aspire to be good students. Unit one also introduced me to new technical terms for the learning process I had not had prior knowledge of this especially the european categorization. Therefore in concluding I must say the unit was challenging but very helpful.

There are two parts of this session. They are teacher and learners. Here are some useful points that I love. What makes a good teacher? They may be 2 criteria: teacher?s personality (patient, kind, love teaching,?) and relationship between the teacher and the students. There are some points that I like most. Firstly, a teacher should really love teaching and be able to motivate learners. Besides, they should have good connection with all students and know student?s weaknesses to give support when necessary. The teacher has some roles, but I think there are 3 most important roles. Firstly, it?s organizer. It means the teacher have to do a lot of activities: giving instructions, organizing students into groups, warming up to closing activities and organizing feedback. A good organizer makes the lesson run smoothly. Next, the teacher is an assessor. In this role, teacher must correct student?s mistakes as well as evaluate and grade. It?s important that the teacher needs to be fair and consistent. Finally, it?s model. The teacher plays as a native speaker so that student can imitate their pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary exactly. What about learners? A good learner can include: willingness to ask question, desire to learn, asking for advice at anytime, accepting error correction. There are a lot of aspects, but I love 2 aspects of students: age, language level. In age, learners may be divided into 3 groups: <7 ? they learn for fun; 8 ? 12 ? they are more receptive to the new words, sounds and grammar of a foreign language; 13+ - they are not usually willing and motivate to take risks with language. In language level, There are some distinctions between learners, they can be divided into: beginners, elementary, low-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate and advanced. I found this unit to be very informative, as well as, insightful. I really like that this unit was able to show me that a good teacher not only teaches at their students, but also gives the student a chance to find their way. Hello! All the information presented was very important for me. Every section is essential to offer a high quality education to the students. This was a very nice unit on the basic qualities that make a good teacher as well as the qualities of a good learner. Additionally, it was a review of the different levels of English language knowledge and how to intially categorize the potential student upon first assessment. In summary, teachers need most to truly enjoy teaching, value each student and use a variety of teaching methods to keep each lesson active and entertaining, as well as educational. It is important that students have a desire to learn the English language, and lack of desire can affect learning. Lastly, it is important to teach the English language based upon the level of fluency of the non-native English student.

I have learned how I need to teach to be a great teacher. The first unit covered worked well, as an introduction to teaching ESL. Unit 1 covered strengths to be cultivated as a teacher and the strengths to look for and encourage growth in the students. I have learnt which qualities are needed to be a good teacher. I liked that the lesson establishes a sound basis and makes clear how important it is to interact with every student on an individual basis. Also they explain which different roles a teacher plays in the classroom. The main focus of Unite 1 is what are some characteristics of the good teacher, what is his role in the classroom, who are good listeners, and how the knowledge of English language is categorized. The chapter also discuss the difference between younger and older listeners, and a common motives for learning an English language. Studying the chapter, I have realized that being a teacher is a great responsibility, but also a wonderful experience and great challenge because of vivid interaction with learners who have various backgrounds and levels of the language knowledge.

This unit talks about teachers and learners. In this unit I explored the factors that make a good teacher and the kind of roles a teacher will play in the classroom. This included very involved roles such as the manager or model, to very reserved roles such as the observer. Every such role is important and necessary at some point in the learning process. When looking at learners I found that there are several sources of motivation for students in a learning environment and their motivation or reason for learning will affect how they engage in the process. Despite these reasons for learning however, if the teacher shows a high interest in the subject matter and an even higher interest in the student's learning experience almost every student can be motivated to learn.

I have also learnt that every student is unique and the teacher should be understanding of this and use different methods of teaching to meet her students needs. Not only this but every student has a different personality, culture, experiences and beliefs which should be taken into consideration when teaching. Depending on the age of the student, the teaching style, method and skills vary. e.g. young learners such as children have short attention spans and therefore need a variety of interesting and fun activities to keep them motivated as opposed to adult learners. Much of the content is easy to understand. I learned, for the first time, about the CEF. I feel that I have learned important foundation knowledge of the classroom environment and structure. I have first of all learned that it takes a lot of patience to be a teacher. A teacher should have a positive note for each student to help keep the students from getting discouraged. A challenge for any teacher would be to keep the classes interesting and also so that the students would have a sense of direction. This lesson describes the roles that a teacher can have in a class, and I learned that it is important to know in which situations we can apply these roles. They also mention that it is easier to teach children than teenagers since them are more attentive. The introductory unit provided informative, clear and adequately detailed information about the characteristics of good teaching and learning. The description of the various roles of a teacher was very interesting and made me realize just how complex teaching can be. Differences in learning because of age was also eye opening.

In unit 1, it is clear to see that teaching English as a foreign language is a Type of work that requires patience. Upon reflection, the relationship between the teachers and the learners is more complex than I had presumed. Being a good teacher means being more of a Guide or facilitator, rather than a controller. The lesson put forth the idea that, if the environment is right and the teacher acts as a part of the whole that is the environment, the learners will develop deeper relationships with the language and learning the language in the future.

This unit was very beneficial in helping me understand the complexities of language that I sometimes don't realise or take for granted. The range of different aspects of speech is vast and there are a lot of rules to remember, but also lots of exceptions. I understand now that there are a lot of words that can be more than one certain Type or part of speech, but that the context is most important in defining parts of speech. Some concepts I find quite difficult myself and I believe that a good understanding and ability to teach students these basic understandings is vital for their future learning.

I definitely learnt a few things in this unit. I had not heard of a few of these rules and ideas and I found it very interesting to learn that I have been practicing them all my life. I will definitely need to keep going over the rules as I'm not sure the names of things will have stuck with me straight away. This is also something to consider when teaching these rules myself, I may need to break down this lesson into a few lessons to make sure all the rules are absorbed.

I have certainly reviewed my grammar rules and brushed up on my grammar. I have learned the importance of revisiting your native english speaker roots and really learning all these things for yourself. So I realized once again how totally confusing and convolution English is for even native speakers - this brought me back to English class my freshmen year. I teach writing so I know grammar rules very well, and how to correct errors and I feel as though I can easily teach the correct way to speak and write basic English. I will constantly have to review the definitions and vocab. Taking this test in this format was a real joke. Very easy. I don't know if that means I'm a grammar master or not.

It has been a while since I looked at sentence in depth like this unit. It was a lot to take in but I really enjoyed the chapter. I even found myself learning a few a easier ways to help differentiate in sentence. I also came to realize how hard my students work and see why they are so excited when they start to easily put together a sentence. I could not have put this unit together any better then what your team or single person has done. Good job!

It would be invalid for me to say that I have not learned any of these topics during my earlier years of school. Although, it refreshed my memory on subjects of different Type of verbs, adverbs, and articles. It has been a long time since I have reviewed these topics. There are so many exception rules applied in the English language and I was glad to review all of the topics discussed.
