In this first unit I learned about Teachers and Learners. The first part of the unit described what qualities an ideal educator should posses. Many of these qualities have to do with respect for your students and being creative when it comes to your lessons. As people have many different learning styles it is important to have a diverse lesson plan. This can include activities for people who are auditory learners (learn by listening), visual learners (learn by watching) kinesthetic learners (learn by doing). By having a diverse lesson plan, you can help ensure that your students are engaged and learning the material. Along with being creative, a good teacher needs to be respectful of the students and their culture. The teacher needs to be able to listen to concerns and be patient with students.
This unit also covered learners and what makes a good learner. People who want to advance their career or perhaps live and travel in an English speaking country are highly motivated to learn. Adults and
children also have different motivators when it comes to learning. Adults might do it for career advancement and younger learners might be in the class because it is a requirement. Learners might also exhibit different behaviors. Adults have a longer attention span but are not as willing to take "risks"" like
young learners are for fear they may embarrass themselves. Teenage learners often look to their peers and are often unwilling to participate for fear that their peers might make fun of them.

This unit was very interesting, concise and well thought out regarding the attributes of a good classroom teacher and those of various levels and ages of learners. I feel that this information could be

This unit has helped me alot. There are alot of things that make a good teacher.In my experience so far i have found having patience,love teaching,being fair and motivating learners come quite highly on my list.Teaching classes of 60+ students per class can be quite a handful at times but having or doing these things makes the lesson more enjoyable and leaves the students egar to learn.I can now distinguish between the roles of a teacher for example, the most popular role for a teacher in my school is manager controller where the teacher is doing all the talking and the students are just listening and writing.This is due to the teacher having to give the students so much information so they can pass their exams and out of respect for the teacher. There is an exception in oral English tho. Oral English is more about the experience so i can take on multiple roles in just one class.The other day i showed my students a ppt while they took notes.Then I gave them an activity to do in pairs while i facilitated.One pair did not understad the meaning of the exercise so i briefly explained it so they understood and then moved on to the next students with their hands raised.After the activity we played a game that corresponed with the lesson so i had to organise all the students into teams.I teach first year of middle school.My students are around 13 or 14 years old and most are at an elementary level at the start of the year.There are a mixture of students some don't want to answer questions in fear someone will laugh. Some tell me I don't speak English but said that sentance in perfect English. Others have no problem with making mistakes.After a few weeks alot of them come out of their shells and have a real desire to learn. I think is an important thing in being a good learner, not the only thing but one of many things. Alot of my students are motivated to learn mostly for one or more of these four reasons. They like languages,they want to pass their exams,they want to study abroad or they want to travel on holiday to a certain country.Over the year I get to see them grow and see how much they have improved from the first day I met them at the start of the year. I am very proud of them and hope they keep the same motivation and enthusiasm with their new teacher the next year.I can also see now that this course is really going to help me give these students the best learning expericence they could possibly have.

This lesson is so intense. While I learned all of this grammar in grade school and high school, it was really difficult to review simply because there is so much to remember. Unit two focused on basic English grammar, namely parts of speech. The unit went over parts of speech from nouns and verbs to prepositions and conjunctions. Although I am a native English speaker, I was surprised how many grammar rules there really are, and how little I actually know about English grammar. I suppose one of the downfalls of being a native speaker is that we grow up with the language, so even though we "know it"" we can't really explain it. Knowing all of the proper names for the parts of speech and the rules introduced in this unit will definitely benefit me as a teacher."

This unit explains in depth all parts of speech that are important in any language. It is a very interesting yet challenging unit, as you realize how complicated and confusing it can be to learn a language fluently. To understand and learn this unit properly, a lot of exercises should be done to practice constantly in order to be confident to be able to teach others.

This unit covered the most basic introduction to english grammar. Not being an English teacher or having ever taken an English grammar class I was shocked to find how ridiculously complex this language is. How difficult to classify so many different parts of speech! This unit covered nouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. Clear examples were given of each and I found myself relying on examples instead of the definitions. I expect students would benefit from this approach.

I have learnt how to use different parts of speech, the main different between transitive and intransitive verbs. This unit has also given me an insight on different categories of adverbs and prepositions and also made me know more about pronouns that are personal and possessive. I acquired very good knowledge about comparing things using comparative forms of adjectives and also describing the best out of many using superlative forms.

This unit was mainly focused on the parts of speech in English that I learned in grade school, so I didn't learn much of anything from it. It was all review, especially since I took linguistics courses in college and had to identify parts of speech in sentences. I appreciate that the course is intended to make sure everyone who passes it knows the basic parts of speech, but there should be a way to test out of this simple section.

It has been many years since I studied grammar and therefore I re-read this section many times! Grammar is a way to analyse the structure of language. It enables you to teach language through understanding that structure, and the way in which that structure may differ from the students own language. Each word can be categorised according to it's use in a sentence. The sequence of words and the way they are used forms a pattern that is mostly consistent throughout the language. This pattern becomes the rules of grammar. Although there are always exceptions to the rules they make the teaching of language through analysis possible. If you can teach the student the rules he/she can use them to structure any sentence correctly.
