Firstly, every teacher needs balance in their classroom. One teacher cannot play just one role. A teacher needs to incorporate many roles into a lesson. In my own experience, being the organizer comes first and then allows roles such as the tutor and participant to go more smoothly. The lesson also outlined students' motivations and how to recognize qualities that make a good student. I also gained a clear understanding of the different levels of students and was able to relate it back to my previous ESL classes. I used these examples to further understand the different levels of ESL students.

I understood this lesson to be an introduction into the world of teaching in general. The principles are surely the same, no matter what the subject matter is; and the approach to resolve the many issues that arise can be just as challenging as the overcoming cultural barriers. Teaching someone to speak your native language can be sure a rewarding event. The moment you see that light bulb turn on over their heads at the moment they truly understand the concept you're trying to teach them... can be such a rewarding and emotional moment, filled with gratitude and accomplishment. Then to look them in the eyes and KNOW they truly understand, you give them back the same satisfaction and pleasure of accomplishment. All because you cared enough to do your best to understand them, to respect them, to involve them, and to equally learn from them too.
I will add that questions 15-19 threw me off balance for a bit because I had invested myself very deeply in the literal content of the lesson and almost forgot the most important aspect of all... nothing is exactly "by the book"" and real life examples show the best understanding of the material presented. Thank you for actually caring enough to see if I was honestly beginning to absorb the material instead of just simple rote memorization."

In this unit I have learned that good teaching is not just about good preparation for classes but also about the teacher's personality and their attitude towards the learning of their students. I learnt the signs of a good learner and that i should not expect all people to learn in the same way or with the same enthusiasm. I should adjust my lesson's to accomodate or incourage the learning styles of my students.
I have also learned the distinctions between the levels of ability in English learners which will be valuable for knowing what content to include and how to structure my lessons.

The content of this unit was intended to highlight the complexity of the relationship between teachers and learners. In the classroom, neither party can dominate; rather, both groups must fulfill their various roles, when appropriate, to benefit from each other and create the best environment for learning. Something important I learned from this unit was the different teacher roles. From my past experience as I learner, I believed that each teacher just had their own particular style of teaching and couldn't be convinced to approach a lesson or activity from a different perspective. However, as a potential future teacher, this unit exemplified the need to always change and adapt in the classroom, to account for learners' needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses.

I have learned that teaching is not just about conveying information to people, but it really is more about engaging with the students and connecting with them first, building a student-teacher relationship. This course content for this unit was the teacher and the students. It went over nine criteria that a teacher should try to emulate. It also included what types of roles a teacher may fill in any one session. A few of those will be examined below. One being the manager which is the most common that I ran into in high school. Organizers are often found in college environments because they have a more concrete knowledge base, and the teacher must trust that the students will keep to the subject matter. An assessor is needed in any teacher's repertoire because giving feedback is an essential part of teaching. If the teacher can not give feedback, how is the learner supposed to learn? A prompter is also important because if you ask for an example or ask for an answer and the student only gives him/her a half answer, the teacher must be able to prompt a further response from the student to gain the full answer they are looking for.
There are also things that make up a good learner. They have to have a willingness to learn, desire to experiment, willingness to ask questions, know their own learning process and methods, accept error correction, and have a desire to learn. There are two kinds of learners known as
young learners & adults. They both bring different aspects to the classroom. While young learners have different motivations, adults usually want to be there as they have made the choice to attend choice, although that choice may have been an economical decision. They also bring their own experience to the classroom as well. While young leaners don't have a wealth of experiences (though they will have some language experience), adult have many life experiences which may make for good classroom discussions depending on what culture you are dealing with.
Finally, there is the language levels. There are five as follows: starter, elementary, pre-intermediate, intermediate, and upper intermediate. With those levels come a range of teaching possibilities and needs. For example, starter levels will only deal with the simplest basics of the English language, but intermediates will be able to talk to you and the class which makes for easier class discussions. Elementary level has very basic vocabulary and can only form simple sentences while upper intermediate/advanced have only to study the more subtle parts of our language.
I learned many different things from this unit. I learned what the student expect of me and what I should expect from them. I also learned the difference between young learners and adult learners which I am excited to use in the classroom. It will also change the way I approach any future lessons. Finally, I learned about the different language levels. I only really knew how the Americans classify your language level, and now I learned the more universalized style of grading at what level a student is.

The most relevant attributes lie in the teachers ability to care for and dynamically interact with learners.
The Unit covers the different roles of a teacher for instant as manager, organizer or model. Being able to switch between these roles is key to leading a successful class and making the learning experience engaging.
The qualities that can be expected in a 'good' student are also reviewed such as receptiveness, desire to learn and motivation. The teacher should try to be aware of these attributes and be able to adapt his or her teaching/lessons to encourage them.
The motivation and class behavior will certainly differ according to the learners age. For example, adults will most likely have a personal interest in studying English. They will be learning on their own volition. On the other hand
young learners, particularly adolescents, might not have chosen to attend the class and therefor may lack in motivation.
Finally, the teacher should always verify that lessons and materials fit the language level of learners.

In short this unit has shown to difference between adult and
young learners, the characteristics of a 'good' teacher/ learner. It has also shown what motivates people to learn and the level of motivation for each group. In turn, it has given me a better understanding as to how best to approach my students. I have realized that I am a 'good' teacher because I possess all the characteristics. In Unit 1, I learned about the different types of teachers and students, different factors that could affect them, and different levels.
A 'good' teacher is kind, patient, entertaining, and someone who can motivate learners, involve all students equally, correct students without affecting their motivation, and knows each students' weaknesses and strengths. A teacher can have many roles inside a classroom. These include the controller, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model, and monitor. Looking back on the teachers I've had in the past, I realize now that they took on different roles throughout a class. Most of my favorite teachers were the ones who took many different approaches to teaching, involved everyone, made learning seem fun, and who genuinely loved to teach.
There are many factor that affect a student such as age, culture, language level, motivation, nervousness, and behavior problems. Students can be divided into adults, post puberty, pre-puberty, and very
young learners. Adults usually have higher motivation and less behavioral problems while some can be nervous or have preconceived views on education. Younger learners have shorter attention spans and can sometimes have behavioral issues, but are much more open to learning new things.
Every student is at a different language level; Beginner, Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced. It is important for a teacher to evaluate the level a student is at, and to teach accordingly.
There are many different reasons to learn a second language. For younger learners, it could be simply because their parents told them to. For adults, it could because they are moving to a different country, living with someone who speaks that language, in order to watch different movies and TV shows, to do better in school, or simply because they just want to learn that language.
I feel that the most important role a teacher could have is to create a classroom environment where students feel safe and motivated to try new things. Developing a trusting relationship with students can not only motivate them, but can also be highly rewarding for the teacher as well.

It also provided beneficial information on what to expect from learners of many different backgrounds. It was also helpful to see all the different language levels laid out in a list format from Beginner to Advanced with a comprehensive description of what is expected at each level.

It was interesting to note the delineation of the stages between learners. The positions that were chosen have very fine distinctions and I can understand why theses lines may blur. It was also interesting to note what are considered to be the most important teaching skills. I do believe that every teacher must have a little bit of all of those personality traits to impact a student in a way that will truly make a difference.

It is important to not only have a good rapport with students so they can respect and trust you, but also to be friendly and approachable. You cannot be to intimidating as a teacher because the learners will not be willing to ask you questions. Unit one was a good explanation of both good teachers and good learners. It explained all of the different roles a teacher can assume, as well as when these roles are necessary or harmful. Along with different teacher roles, this unit explains what a good student looks like, and what characteristics are possessed by good students. This unit also gave a breakdown of the motivations, experiences, and behaviors of students of different age groups. Finally, this unit explained the different levels of language learners, from beginner all the way to advanced. This unit was a great introduction to student and teacher behavior, and, like the lesson said, "usually good teachers have good students.""

The simplest form of structure is the basic sentence. But that doesn't mean it's simple. Even a basic sentence can be complex and hard to understand when looking at all the grammatical rules. I, personally, don't understand all the rules of grammar when put on paper and have a hard time figuring out all the details, but after this unit I have a better understanding of why words have special rules and others don't.

It has been a long time since I studied the parts of speech. This was a great refresher and I enjoyed the easy way the parts of speech were explained. The terminology for the terms of speech was clearly defined by examples. I take many terms of speech for granted, I am so used to using them. The section on regular and irregular verbs was most interesting.

From this content, I realized that it require a knowledge of adjectives, nouns, adverbs and all other parts of speech so as to apply them in answering every question of the test thus lack of knowledge of some of them would meant and will result in a wrong answer. For me, I have not able to review so well so that I feel some difficulty in answering some of the question and I am not so sure if my answer is correct or not. However, I did my best in doing this test as much as my ability is concern. Also, I had observed that the test is not easy and simple it needs a thorough knowledge of the parts of speech in order to make perfect all the answers. For me, I need to exert more efforts and spend a little more time in order to properly affit myself in this course, and I will doing the same for this whole of six month time.

Unit II provided much information concerning the parts of speech and the use of proper grammar. It gave an abundance of information on the differences between certain types of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, etc... Moreover the content of Unit II taught the intricacies of the English language and why it is difficult for certain students and teachers to fully understand. Unit II also discussed the common mistakes that students might make and a few techniques to aid them.
I learned that I often take grammar for granted, as most of us usually forget the complexity of it. I also learned various activities and methods that will help me help students if they run into any problems. I enjoyed the step-by-step nature of the unit as I feel it refreshes the mind to certain elements of the English language I have not particularly revisited in years.

I feel this chapter reviewed and emphasized the parts of speech that are spoken everyday. It was a great refresher for me to clarify parts of the speech I speak often but have forgotten the rules and exceptions. I learned English grammar in my primary school years back in the

I have known deeper about Grammar and form of structure. Now I can explain for students what noun , adjective , articles , verb... exactly are. I thought that articles are complicated but now i know how to use it! I think uncountable and countable noun are quite difficult to remember but i did remember many words after learnt this unit. This unit actually covers the the basic parts of speech which i consider to be building blocks of the english language. It covered nouns, verbs,adjectives,adverbs,prepositions ,gerunds and conjunctions. Personally, i learnt a lot concerning gerunds. This is the -ing form of the verb being used as a noun either as a subject or object. Refreshed my memory and made me realize that this would be an area that would require intense teaching on my part since these parts of speech are the basis of the English language. This Unit was an introduction to grammar and parts of speech. It was a good study and very helpful. I am more confident with my grammar skills after studying this Unit. I am a native speaker but I don't have a lot of teaching experience in the classroom. Preparation plays the most important part for me right now and is my primary focus as I develop more teaching skills. The main thing I learned in this Unit primarily relates to sentence structure and word placement. I found this unit to be a great refresher of basic English that I have not studied in years. Once a language becomes ingrained in the mind, it is easy to forget rules and reasons for the way we speak. The amount of different adjectives/nouns/verbs etc is astonishing!! All fairly easy to learn and i can already think of a few activities for students in regards to remembering most of them without confusion. A very helpful section and i have learnt a lot and it has refreshed my memory a lot as well . This unit helped me to clarify the roles of each part of speech in the English language. Unit 2 was a great refresher for me as it has been a long time since I have studied grammar.I felt this was a very overwhelming unit due to the explanations, especially regarding the transitive verbs. I personally believe that nouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives should have been one unit. Preposition, articles, etc. should have been taught separately. I believe that the English Language has many exceptions to the rule and most ELL students must feel overwhelmed when they feel they understand a rule and are then confronted with an exception.

This was an interesting segment. Having grown up speaking English my entire life, I know most of this stuff intrinsicly. However some of the names and rules were new to me. I don't often think about what I'm saying or why I'm saying it that way, I just know to say it that way as I was trained to do it growing up.
In order to teach the basic rules and systems of speech to others who weren't brought up around the language, I should have to look a little deeper into all of this. This will be good for not only my teaching but for me as a person in the long run. Perhaps my own english will improve now that I'm more aware of what I'm saying and the how and why of why I am saying it.

I learn nouns are
Name of people, animals, place, things qualities and state. A countable noun is a things, people, creatures that can be counted example a car. Uncountable noun is a things that can't be counted example music. An adjectives are words that describe a noun example big / small. Comparative compare two people or things example Peter is taller than Gary. Verb is a doing word example go,watch, play, etc. adverb is a quality or state denoted by a verb example manner, place, time,
degree, frequency. Gerund is the ing form of a verb used as noun example playing.
