I enjoyed the layout of this lesson. It was interesting to note the impact of a teachers relationship with his students. How important it is that he take a personal interest in their development and progress. Encouragement is important. The teacher must engender a spirit of uninhibited attempts at speaking the english language with out making the student overly worried about making a mistake. To start with, a learner must seriously understand that learning is a great involvement of the times, it requires hard work in order for it to be a successful procedure. Building up knowledge should be continuous; that is, the learners should always study so as not to have any bridging, otherwise learners will pose a problem. Learning is like a chain, and each lesson and studying time links like a chain. If the learners fail to study or miss a lesson without making it up, then automatically they have broken the learning chain and their learning is likely going to be distracted. Moreover, there must always be concentration in the study rooms or place as well. The learner must select to study in a quite, warm environment, if possible away from distractions like telephones, computers or televisions. Above all, studying should take place at the right time for the learners, they should ask themselves what should be the best time of day to study and keep that as permanent study time. Therefore, learners have to make a good time-table and combine it with any other daily activities or work, if they are professionals. Having a time help the learning process a lot, for the reason that it helps maintain organization. Lastly, but equally important to all the already mentioned factors, learners should study hard. The different levels in English learning was something new for me. I know how to refer to every level but I found out the differences among them is quite subjective and sometimes difficult to measure. I think this is essential for teachers and involves a big responsibility when you test a student. I would like to have learnt more detail information about the main points mentioned above but I guess I will do along the further units. It is clear that relationship building and creating a teacher/student trusting rapport is more likely to promote student success. As I teacher, I should be able to switch roles as needed and work towards engaging students from the beginners to the advanced. Whatever the student motivation may be, It is up to the teacher to engage that motivation.

This unit sets forth the varied roles of a good teacher and the various factors that impact student learning. It also describes the levels of study in tesol. This unit covered the different roles that the teacher plays in a classroom. It described the roles and elaborated on all the different aspects of being a good/effective teacher. The unit also covered information about the students, the different levels of learning the English language and the differences between teaching adults and children. In this unit I have learned the roles as well as characteristics of both teachers and students. Knowing the roles of a teacher in the classroom is important because each role has its purpose for the teacher in assessing a classroom or student situation and how to adapt future lesson plans to better instruct the class.

Through this unit, I was able to gain a firm understanding of the teacher-student dynamic. By learning about the different strategies that teachers might employ in a classroom, it helped me visualize how certain lessons might go and which methods would work best for which topics. Also, by classifying the different levels of language proficiency, it provided me with a way to readily identify how far along each student is in their English learning. It provided clues as to where a student might be in his progress based on how he constructs his sentences, which vocabulary he uses and how many topics he is able to discuss.

Unit One covered the basic aspects of teaching, and learning. It provided examples of good qualities that a teacher, and a student, should possess. It also provided a description for several roles a teacher must adopt depending on the situation, from manager to monitor. On the learners side, Unit One discussed differences in types of learners by age, culture, and level of prior ESL education. A breakdown of the differences in language level for students provided a useful tool to help teachers identify their audience, which is important for lesson planning, and the approach of the teacher. I took from this Unit the deeper understanding of the roles teachers and students take in a classroom setting, and how they affect each other. The key to being a good teacher, inclusive of the traits, behaviours, and knowledge that has been discussed in this unit, is creating a positive relationship with each and every student, which helps ensure key student behaviours such as motivation, attention, and willingness to communicate and correct errors.

From the start of unit one to the end, I have learnt the qualities needed in a good teacher. Also I now understand the role of a good teacher and what is involved. Adaptability is key in knowing what role you play in a class room and when teaching students of different academic levels regarding the English language. Students need to feel you are approachable when they are trying to learn something new and something they don't fully grasp yet. Teaching is something to be enjoyed.

In this unit I learned all the different types of words that go into creating a sentence. I think this lesson drew my attention to the fact that, Before this I truly did not know that much about the words I was using, from a structural point of view. I think I still need a lot of practice identifying the types of words that we usually overlook or gloss over in school. We all remember the difference between a noun and a verb or an adjective. But I think many, if not most people, would have difficulty identifying a countable noun versus an uncountable noun. Being able to explain he difference between things like a definite article and an indefinite article, and other types of things like that will be very helpful while teaching, especially since some languages don't have some of these types of words.

This unit was a nice review of basic grammar rules. It focused mainly on the parts of speech, such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, gerunds, adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions. I felt the material was a little dense, and perhaps it should be broken up into two sections. It also seemed to be aimed at people who are already native speakers of English.

When I was in primary and secondary schools those parts of speech have been studied and I really didn't understand it, maybe I was too slow or my teacher ain't really that good! As I start my teaching career I was assigned to teach English 4, 5, and 6 I understand more the importance of these parts and I teach it to my students already. I give them a sentence then we'll identify each word. It helps me more professionally and teaches me as well to let my students understand it. While reading this unit, I was refreshed and reviewed well with all those parts. I have few questions to ask to the tutor later on, just a confirmation about my understanding. I love the video. It had been a long time since Ive studied grammar so it was a great review. We use all of these words everyday but forget what they actually mean and stand for and why we are using them so I am glad I got to relearn everything. Grammar is not my strong suit so I learned much and more in this unit. As a native English speaker may of the rules of grammar seem intuitive so what "sounds right"" is usually right This unit is an overview of grammatical rules and parts of speech. Each part of speech explains not what the word is, but how the word is used. In fact, the same word can be a noun in one sentence and a verb or adjective in the next. I have always struggled in school when it came to grammar, all the way through my undergraduate degree, and right until today. Needless to say, this was not an enjoyable topic to return to, nor review. However, I was happy to be able to remember a few key concepts regarding grammar I learned in elementary school, such as how to properly identify pronouns, proper nouns, and the interesting intricacies of adverb usage. However, I will most definitely need to review this topic harder in the future, particularly once I cover this topic in my own classes, and I fully expect to receive questions from students I will not know the answers to.

Every word in the sentence has a certain grammatical meaning and can be classified as a certain part of speech. Nouns are names of people, animals, phenomena, places, qualities. They can be common ( cat, house), proper (Monica, China, Santa Clause), compound (moonlight, snowflake, police officer, train station), abstract (solitude, euphoria, kindness), collective ( family, flock, herd, pride). Moreover, nouns can be countable (pen, dog) or uncountable (music, water). Uncountable noouns can't be used in the plural and can not be preceded by indefinite articles. Verbs can refer to actions or states. Verbs can be divided into transitive and intransitive ones. Transitive verbs can be followed directly by an object ( make something, influence something, see something). Intransitive verbs include ones that can't have the direct object (die, sleep, come, look). All verbs have a base form. The base form with "to"" form the infinitive. Ing-form of the verb used in the sentence as a noun is a gerund.

The objective of this unit was to introduce students to the parts of a speech. I will take an example of a simple sentence to briefly explain this concept. ?the lazy child laid on the carpet.? Child refers to the subject of the sentence, carpet being the object and laid being the verb. Each word in this sentence can be further classified, according to its purpose and the meaning it adds. This is what is referred to as parts of a speech. Each word in this sentence is therefore classified as: The-definite article Lazy-adjective Child-noun Laid-verb On-preposition The-definite article Carpet-noun This unit introduced us to nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. I will briefly explain what I understand about each one of them and give examples of each. 1) A noun names people, animals, places or things. The main Types are common, proper, compound, abstract and collective. Common noun is one which is not specific and is common eg home, pencil, cup, bottle. Proper nouns are specific and always start with a capital letter eg spain, America, Jupiter. Compound nouns are two nouns joint together to make one noun eg textbook, bookcase, classroom. An abstract noun is an idea which can not be touched eg democracy, collective bargaining, mcdonaldization. Collective nouns are groups of individuals as if they are one eg flock, herd. Nouns can be countable (that can be counted eg chair, table) and uncountable (which can not be counted eg music, information). 2) Adjective is a word used to describe a noun. If there are more than one adjective in a sentence, it usually follows the order through a basic rule which is: size, age, colour, material, noun. Adjectives can be used as comparatives (used to compare two things) or superlatives (used to compare more than two things, and find the most/least of a group of things). Comparative eg This table is bigger than that one. Superlative eg This table is the biggest of all tables. 3) Articles are used Before nouns and are of two types: Definite (the) and Indefinite (a, an). Eg to form, to bring etc. Auxiliary verbs help to form a tense by combining with present or past participle or infinitive of other verbs. Eg I have been to Europe many times. 5) Adverbs add meaning to the action, quality or state that the verb denotes. They are of five types: manner, place, time, degree, frequency. Example of adverb usage is: I cleaned my room quickly. (this refers to an adverb of type manner) 6) Gerunds is when ?ing is added to a verb to make it a noun. Eg Forming, Fishing, working. 7) Pronouns are words used instead of nouns/noun phrases. They are of four types: personal (he,she,it,they), possessive (his,hers,ours,theirs), reflexive (himself,herself,itself), relative (who,which,whose). 8) Prepositions are used to show the relationship between a noun/pronoun and some other word in a sentence. There are three main types: time/Date, movement, and place/position. Eg: I was working until 2pm. (until is a type of time/date preposition) 9) Conjunctions are used to join words/groups in a sentence (Eg1) and to join clauses of a sentence (E2). Also, a basic sentence must contain a subject and an action the subject does. Nouns are people, places, animals, things, and ideas. Nouns can be both countable and uncountable. There are common nouns and proper nouns. Common nouns don't have a capital letter. Proper nouns are names of nouns such as people names or city names. Adjectives are used to describe nouns. Verbs give action or state to the sentence. Adverbs describe how the verb is performed. Prepositions are used to show movement or placement in the sentence. Conjunctions are used when listing things and also connecting multiple clauses in a sentence. This unit was a good review, most of these topics I already knew but it was a very useful review to help when teaching grammar to students.

I have learnt in Unit 2 that we have to look at grammar when we want to teach our students. Firstly as a Teacher I have to know different parts of speech. This unit was definitely a flood of information that will take time to perfectly master. Thankfully much of it simply brought me back to my scholastic units from grades one to three and therefore weren't presenting all new information although there still is much to make myself familiar with. This is certainly a unit that I will reflect back to time and time again as I continue through this course.

It was very helpful to review grammar since I Haven't done that since high school. Much of it I remembered and yet there were some gaps. The five kinds of adverbs was helpful. I'm already getting more clarity about things that I had forgotten or had confused me. Learning about the exceptions reminded me what a tall task it is to teach English to non-native speakers. I could imagine how helpful it would be to have some Mad Libs or to ask students to make their own on a particular subject.

It was really helpful in refreshing my memory of parts of speech. It really provides great examples and covers all content in a simple understandable way . I have also learnt a few more things that I seemed to have forgotten since school. I definitely will use these explanations and examples in my teaching career. I would not change a thing with regards to this units content and explanations.
