As students hail from different learning levels and cultural backgrounds, teachers need to be able to gain interest and motivate even the most reluctant of learners. As stated in the lesson, ?a good teacher will most likely have good students.? Teachers must observe students and adjust to make a comfortable learning environment and assess their learning. It?s important for teachers to understand cultural differences and individual issues that may arise in class and how to deal with them.
Students also have some basic responsibilities that teachers may not be able to control. A basic desire to learn or willingness to listen cannot always be brought out in a student. An example would be those students forced to take a foreign language. However, a good teacher tries his or her best to motivate even the most stubborn students. Students should be willing to experiment, fail, and accept corrections. All students possess a learning style. Not all styles are the same, so it can be important for both teacher and student to understand what
works best for the situation at hand.

I had an overview of the roles of teachers and learners, and it was necessary to have a good awareness of the relationship between teachers and learners. To be either a better language teacher or a learner, I need to know the responsibilities and characteristics.
To be an ESL teacher, I was a language learner first, and I still have been learning English with a lot of practice which I have during classes and training sessions. I can be more motivated by looking at the characteristics of a good language learner. As I am taking this on-line course, I am more aware of how to be a self-motivated learner and a more professional teacher as well. I will put what I have learned into practice and get more on-hand experience in teaching and learning a second language.
What exactly is a teacher doing in the class? How to deliver an effective and efficient language class? There are tons of topics related to being a good teacher. I think that teaching is sometimes like acting in front of different audience. And there is an interesting and subtle relationship between te actor and the audience.
It is important for a teacher to know how to be a good actor, so I can see that it is helpful to have a closer look at different roles that teachers play during the class. I have taught both young and adult learners, and I can design and conduct a bigger variety of classroom activities based on the roles of teachers. For instance, I could help
young learners go through the learning process more when acting as a model, and older learners from upper level could do more open activities independently with some help from a prompter or a facilitator.
To get a better relationship and balance between teachers and learners, on the other hand, teaching and learning, I can vary my roles to fit in different classes and change my ways to practice better.",

I have learned that there are a wide variety of teaching roles and that a good teacher will have to be to fulfill all of them at various times. Focusing too much on any given role while ignoring others will cause you to have issues such as lack of class motivation or engagement. In addition you have to be receptive to you students and their needs, but it a cultural, language level, or age need.

After I studied this unit, I learned how a good teacher should be in a lesson and what a good learner is. I also learned how to teach a group of students who's native language is not English. The content was about different forms of grammar. As a native english speaker I had no idea what most of this was and felt like I was learning if for the first time again and I found it quite difficult to remember everything in this unit. It made me think about how hard it would be for someone learning english, I really did not realise how complicated the english language was. So my biggest learning from this unit is not all of the rules to grammar but rather how complicated it is and I will now begin to think about ways I can teach this to students that they will be able to remember

The information is structured in the most convenient way. Enjoyed it. When i was taught enlgish at school i never learnt it in dept and stuck to nouns,verbs and adjectives, so it was really suprising to see how much there is to the enlglish language ! The thing that caught me by suprise most was the fact that there are so many rules behind everything.
