Unit 13 dealt with techniques for teaching pronunciation to students. It focused on several methods for helping students to correctly pronounce English words. While I have had experience using visual aids and providing an example using my own mouth, prior to taking this course I have had little understanding of how to properly utilize the phonetic alphabet with students. After having read this unit, I can clearly understand how the phonetic alphabet may be of immense benefit to students who learn best by reading the material. The only difficulty I feel I may encounter in trying to implement the use of the phonetic alphabet, is that many of my students are very young and have not yet mastered the Latin alphabet and I do not want them to come away confused over which to use when writing.
