Writing a lesson plan can be helpful in planning what you are going to teach on. A lesson plan can act as notes to refer to during a lesson. Lesson plans can also serve as a report of what has already been taught, which is especially helpful for substitute teachers. There is no single specific way a lesson plan needs to be written, but it is helpful to write out things like what the takeaway skill of the class will be (learning objective), as well as what major grammar and themes will be covered in the lesson (language point). When planning a sequence of lessons, you must be flexible in case one of the lessons have to change. It also helps to see goals for your class to achieve in the lesson sequence, to plan on integrating a variety of skills, and to frequently review past content.
