Writing and speaking are both fundamental skills in communication, and both present challenges for the student and the teacher. While on the one hand speaking requires a lower degree of accuracy, because most mistakes and misunderstandings can be rectified at the time of speaking, the speaker has very little time to plan and think about what they want to say. On the other hand, writing allows the person more time to plan and choose the words they wish to use, however it is often underdeveloped during a course because it would require a lot quiet time in class and requires the student to actually do their homework. One of the biggest challenges with speaking is the students lack of confidence and fear, so a main goal for the teacher must be to create a comfortable and relaxed environment.
