This unit is mainly about how to apply appropriate eye contact, gesture, voice, student names, student grouping, classroom arrangement, board-writing, teacher and student talk time, rapport, and disciplines in language classrooms. This unit provides many useful guidances showing how teachers can better manage their classrooms with available techniques and resources. I am especially intrigued and inspired by the sections on how a teacher's voice and position affect student behavior. After reading this unit I realized that throughout my teaching career, I have mostly been standing a lot and not providing enough student individual or pair/group work time. I will keep reminding myself to sit down and monitor from a distance so that students can build up their student talk time and self-reliance.
