Unit 14 is about course books and lesson materials. Although course book materials have their advantages, it is better to combine created materials and course books to the lesson. Some advantages to using the course books are that it provides a syllabus which is graded to a level for the students, also it provides a balance of grammar, skill, and vocabulary work. Course books have also been tested and have teacher books that offer inexperienced teachers good ideas. When supplementing with authentic materials, teachers need to be careful in selection. Authentic materials are created for native speakers, not the ESL learners. I feel that it is important for teachers to have a balance between course books and created materials to engage students and provide materials that are interesting.
