The videos in Unit 10 were devices used to demonstrate the differences between effective and ineffective teaching techniques. In the first video, the teacher appears to be unhappy, disorganized, and uncaring about his students. He doesn't know their names, doesn't seem to care if he learns their names, and treats the students in a demeaning way. His manner limits student engagement, and they are intimidated by his comments. The teacher in the second video is much more effective in achieving the language point. He engages his students with a warm smile, and elicits their responses with his demeanor. His lesson is organized, and his directions are clear. The students know what is expected and they respond eagerly to his prompts. He uses humor, mimes, and pictures to aid in his teaching.
