Vocabulary and grammar structures have no meaning on their own. Only with within the context of full sentences do they find their meaning. This is important because while the word \"table\" is fixed in its meaning, knowing what the word means on its own isn't the full picture. Students have to know where in the sentence it falls, which words are commonly found with it, and in which contexts they can be used. I'm a fan of learning vocabulary in the context of sentences, which I think is in keeping with the methodologies found here. After vocabulary is learned, it is drilled in pronunciation and seen in various contexts through the \"study\" phase, which should help cement it into long term memory, especially when students try to use their new knowledge during the activate portion of the class.
