This unit was entitled \"Teaching Productive Skills\". The unit dissected the 2 parts: speaking & writing skills. The first area I found valuable was the differentiation between accuracy and fluency activities. In this section, it also suggested the importance of checking for accuracy in language use in a controlled way PRIOR to expecting students to creatively try fluency activities. The second area I found to be beneficial was the writing skills area where they encouraged the use of creative writing. I tend to agree that writing skills get left aside often times in learning English, yet is so crucial to fully developing a high-level ESL student. The 2nd half of the unit did a nice job justifying writing's validity as well as giving pertinent examples to be used within the classroom setting.
