Unit 7 stresses the importance of balance and discernment when introducing the students to new vocabulary, grammar and functions. It shows what criterea has to be taken into consideration when selecting words to teach and it outlines techniques for vocabulary teaching. Unit 7 then shows how to introduce grammatical structures and gives techniques for presenting and practising language structures. It then goes on to explain what language functions are. For all three components, vocabulary, grammar and functions a typical ESA lesson is consequently suggested. In this unit, I was made aware of the fine balance that has to be achieved when teaching the different components of a new language. Like different parts of a tree, the different part of a language have to be present in a proportionate manner.
