A proactive approach to successfully teaching is the main point I learned from Unit 5. The way in which a teacher behaves, speaks, and gestures plays a major role in communicating not only language but building rapport by first establishing acceptance and trust. If a student trusts the teacher and believes the learning space is safe they will be comfortable to learn. Additionally, the best discipline plan is preventative. Many actions can be taken to avoid discipline issues such as the teacher maintaining a well-organized lesson plan and classroom. There will be those students who will deliver or illicit emotional reactions. It is vital the teacher be expecting this and to be aware of their emotional maturity and stability to avoid giving a harsh response which in turn erodes confidence and rapport.
