A teacher can play different roles in the classroom (intstructor, facilitator, mentor, psychologist, counselor and policeman). Graded activities are recommended when dealing with a group of various language levels. One can also mix the strong students with the weaker ones. Lessons consist of developing learners' receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (writing and speaking). This will be achieved in a context of business related activities (meetings, presentation, telephoning, reports...) This unit reviews methodologies used through time such as grammar translation, audio lingualism, the silent way, task based learning and PPP. An ESA lesson includes 3 main stages (Engage, Study, Activate). Boomerang (E,A1,S,A2) and patchwork ESA lessons are variations of a straight arrow ESA.
