Aside from the actual content of an English lesson, many other factors come into play in the classroom that are important to student success. These include appropriate use of eye contact, gestures, voice, and names, as well as the order in which a class is grouped for seating and activities. A teacher's position throughout the lesson conveys different things to the class, too; for example, when standing, the are in a more dominant position, and when seated, the atmosphere becomes more intimate and relaxed. In general, it is best to provide as much STT as possible, while still providing TTT when necessary for modeling, instruction, establishing rapport, etc. When disciplining, a few of the most important rules are to act immediately, stay calm, and only make threats you're willing and able to enforce.
