This unit briefly discussed the two receptive skills students should be actively encouraged to utilize in the classroom. These receptive skills are reading and listening. This section did a brief overview of the reasons people in general use receptive skills. These reasons are that people read and listen to accomplish a goal. An example of this could be to learn something new about history by reading an autobiography of a famous individual from the past. I learned that one action, like reading a book, can accomplish both of the reasons someone is reading or listening to something. It could both be because you are trying to accomplish a specific goal, and it can also be for pleasure. This unit also went over potential ways a teacher could get students to utilize these receptive skills in the classroom.
