Unit 15 focuses on tests and evaluating students. Teachers can assess a student?s language level and progress with tutorials, evaluations of the course by the students, and/or tests. Some teachers may not agree with tests as a necessary part of students? learning, however, tests can check and show teachers and students the progress that has been made and any major difficulties that an individual or the class may be having. Tests are also often required by the school. Unit 15 introduces the common types of tests teachers may choose to give: placement test (sample placement test is provided in the unit), progress test, diagnostic test, and practice test. A general description of some of the most common external exams, such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, and the Cambridge Assessment, are also provided.
