The most important thing in this lesson was probably the ESA elements of a lesson. Learning how to teach things in the right order seems to be very important. I remember when I was studying Chinese, that at the beginning of class I often needed a little bit of time before I was able to completely engage in more fluent conversation. This is compensated for in the ESA pattern, because the first step Engage, doesn't teach anything new, which is a way of getting the students' brains to get used to the language environment. Then when the Study phase begins, everyone is ready to soak in some new information about the language. Finally, Activate is very important as a way of applying what the students know, cementing the newly learned information immediately, which is extremely important for language learning.
