Unit 16 content is Conditionals and Reported Speech. Conditionals are sentences containing two clauses: an 'if' clause and a main clause that refer to past, present and future possibilities. The 'if' clause contains the condition that has to be satisfied before the main clause can be realised. Five main conditionals are presented (zero, first, second, third and mixed) along with typical student errors, and teaching ideas. Changing Direct Speech to Reported (or Indirect) Speech is presented with changes to verb tenses, pronouns and time expressions, along with potential for student errors, and teaching ideas. Once again, this unit presents yet another scope of the English language, along with the challenge to teach this material clearly and concisely, and as stated in the unit material, 'slowly, slowly!'
