Unit 7 covers the basic elements needed to teach grammar, vocabulary and language structures. It explains the important elements in making sure that the teaching methods used cover the most basic elements of language to ensure that the lessons are complete and thorough. Elements of what is important for grammar, vocabulary and language usage includes: appropriateness, meaning, level of coverage, forms and patterns. There is consensus of what kind of grammar and language function is appropriate for various levels of language, however, the type of vocabulary that one should know according to a student's level can vary a lot; it would depend upon what kinds of tasks the teacher has arranged for learning and also in my opinion it can depend on the geography of the country. One of my Spanish teachers was teaching me vocabulary words that were unique to the mining and cole industry because in her native country of Chile that was the main sources of income for the country. It confused me because I lived in an area where the High-Tech Industry was prominent and so it was an eye-opening experience to learn words around construction and cole-mining when I felt it was not applicable to me and my surroundings. So the kind of vocabulary one teaches can be heavily influenced by the major industries of the country one is teaching in and/or the country from which the teacher is from.
