A Modal auxiliary is a verb that is used with another verb to express a mood or tense. There are two types of voices used in the English language, the passive and the active voice. In the passive, the object of an active verb becomes the subject of the passive verb. Passive voice is used when the focus is on the action while the active voice describes a sentence where the subject performs the action stated by the verb. I learnt that there are three types of clauses, Relative clauses are clauses starting with the relative pronouns ?who?, ?that?, ?which?, ?whose?, ?where?, ?when?. They are most often used to define or identify the noun that precedes them. Independent clause which is a complete sentence and Dependent clause which is not a complete sentence and must be connected to an independent clause. A phrasal verb is a combination of words usually a verb plus a preposition or verb plus an adverb that when used together, usually take on a different meaning to that of the original verb. There are three types of phrasal verbs, Intransitive phrasal verbs which cannot be followed by an object, Transitive separable phrasal verb is an object pronoun that can only come between the verb and the particle and Transitive inseparable phrasal verbs, this is where the object phrase or object pronoun both come after the particle.
