I have learned about the different ways to evaluate and test the level of English of students. Tutorials may be given to students on a one on one basis or as a group. These can help students overcome some difficulties they have with English. Evaluation by students may be given by the teacher to help the teacher help them. For example, they may give a questionnaire to ask the student what helped and what didn't help? Was the class interesting? They could give some feedback or suggestions to help the teacher make class more fun and productive and the teacher may use this information for future classes. Tests are a good way to evaluate students. Some teachers may believe that tests are more of a test of memory that information/knowledge and avoid using them. There are various kinds of tests that may be conducted Placement tests help to decide which class or level a student belongs in. Practice tests help students prepare themselves for important exams or external exams (which are taken outside of an English school like the IELTS and TOEFL). Achievement tests help teachers evaluate what has been learned at the end of the course. Progress tests are given periodically to help find out what was remembered and what wasn't. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests but are more extensive which helps the teacher figure out what to prepare for the future classes.
